MASTER GUNS'
By Peter Herlan

GENRE: Family, Drama
LOGLINE:

Inspired from a true story, father and son's lifelong relationship struggle comes to a tipping point when Master Guns, a mean Marine that transforms into an inspirational beloved teacher and coach passes and his son delivers his eulogy.

SYNOPSIS:

Rolland, an uptight executive learns of his father Harold’s passing while on a lavish golf vacation with friends in Pebble Beach. His life-long strained relationship with his father leads to Rolland demanding to deliver his father’s eulogy, which the family is well prepared to reject. After going through the gauntlet of family members, pastoral staff, and ultimately the pastor of the church, Rolland wins the podium but is faced with the dilemma of the ultimate and justifiable pay-back or protecting his father’s honor.

Harold’s story unfolds in the eulogy as a high school track star to embracing his role as the stereotypical old school fighting, boozing, cussing Marine. Eventually Harold finds solace and changes his ways when along comes his antithesis, Lillian. As his commitment to the Marine Corps is honored with the prestigious Navy Medal of Achievement, Harold receives sound advice and a tough pill to swallow from his former and now retired Drill Sergeant Campo, it’s time to retire.

Harold now in his 50’s and his old school Marine-ways a distant memory, he still holds tight to the discipline ingrained in him as he embarks on his new career at one of the roughest schools in San Diego. As newly minted “dictator” of classroom 34S, Harold establishes a “No Covers Allowed”, or face confiscation policy. This leads to a reprimand by Principal Ruiz whose office is now filled with countless hats and hundreds of messages from upset parents. As Harold is unwilling to budge, Ruiz agrees to allow the archaic hat policy to stand only as a negotiation tool to convince Harold to take over women’s basketball and track & field coaching duties.

It isn’t long before Harold gains the respect and admiration of the students and administration. But now into his 70’s and his health deteriorating, Harold is visited by a face from the past, a recently released felon and parent of one of Harold’s past star pupils. Harold sees the culmination of his hard work and dedication to his students on the grandest educational stage of all.

As news of Harold’s passing spreads throughout the campus, the kids that were once foes, are now his greatest fans and they decide to honor Master Guns with a heartwarming and moving tribute to their favorite teacher of all-time. We are now full circle with the remaining question of how Master Guns’ son will handle the daunting task to either honor or destroy his father’s legacy.
