By Emy Dust

GENRE: Thriller, Romance
LOGLINE:

A young man, broken and withdrawn after a family tragedy, and a city girl are forced to confront the perils of the wilderness—and the shadows of their own past—when a weekend trip turns into a fight for survival. Along the way, they navigate danger, hidden attraction, and ultimately a bond that changes them both forever.

SYNOPSIS:

The two main characters in the story are Betty and Dean. Dean lost his parents when he was a child, and he raised his sister, who died in a tragic accident a year earlier. He has not yet been able to come to terms with this loss and has escaped the pain by shutting himself away from people and relationships. He keeps in touch only with a few friends. His life is defined by isolation and inner struggle, as he struggles with guilt and anger against the shadows of the past.

Betty goes to university and lives in an apartment with a good friend, Mike. Mike, Betty's closest confidant, convinces her to go on a weekend trip with him. But the trip gets off to a bumpy start: Betty can't find her place among Mike's friends, who don't welcome her. The situation worsens when Betty is injured in an accident and feels increasingly hopeless. Dean agrees to escort her back to town while the others continue on their way, but the seemingly simple journey back soon turns into a life-threatening adventure.

Along the way, they find themselves in even greater danger and are forced to fight for their lives. As nature and human evil test them, Betty and Dean dislike each other, yet there is an inexplicable attraction between them. As the series of challenges grows more difficult, Betty and Dean gradually grow closer, increasingly realizing that they need each other's support. A hunting party catches up with them, but Dean refuses to let Betty get hurt and rescues her, even at the risk of his own life.

During their escape, they are attacked by a bear and are forced to cross a high cliff, a river, and then a dangerous ravine, where Dean again helps Betty. The hardships they face together bring them closer, and they both increasingly break down the walls they have built around themselves. Soon they reach a meeting point where Betty is waiting for Carlos, her partner. Although at first it seems that Betty will finally be safe, things soon take a turn for the worse.

During an argument, Carlos, who should be helping, abandons Betty in the woods in the middle of the night. Alone and defenseless, Betty is bitten by an unknown animal and soon afterward is caught by the outcasts, who try to kill her as part of a ritual. After a tremendous struggle, she manages to escape, but she is physically and mentally exhausted. In the forest, she meets an abandoned dog who becomes her faithful companion and offers hope to the lonely girl.

Meanwhile, Dean and Mike learn that Betty has been abandoned by Carlos and set out in search of her. They eventually manage to find the girl, who is terrified and in poor health. Dean's feelings for her grow stronger, but in the midst of all the trouble, Mike confesses his love for Betty, causing Dean to retreat into the background. Later, the group reunites and tries to get back to town, but on their way, they run into more danger with the outcasts. After heavy fighting, they finally manage to escape, but the struggle takes a heavy toll. Mike is killed in a bear attack, which shakes Betty to the core.

When they finally get back to town, the police take over the case. Betty is taken home by her parents, while Dean is arrested because Carlos has pressed charges against him. She is completely numb from the trauma and loss and refuses to talk to anyone. Dean goes to Mike's funeral but does not meet Betty because she is withdrawn. Dean deeply cares for her, so he and Betty's friend plan a way to help her overcome her depression.

After Betty's girlfriend tries to cheer her up, during a walk on the beach, the girl spots a familiar dog. Soon after, Dean appears. Between the two of them, repressed feelings finally surface, and they confess to each other that they love each other. Betty wants to surprise Dean by overcoming his fears about going on trips, so she secretly arranges a trip for the two of them to embark on together, with their future in mind.
