A suburban family takes over a failing circus but must battle financial hardships, hostile performers, and a mysterious beast to make it work.
SYNOPSIS:
McCrumples Circus Bizarre has been in the McCrumples family for generations. This circus is in Anton’s blood and he will do anything to protect it and the close-knit performers that make up this unique circus.
Anton McCrumples seems to have a strained relationship with Frank from the Bank who is always at his door wanting explanations for missed lease payments. This is the modern age and people would rather spend their time on social media or gaming platforms than visit a circus. But this proud ring-master will not be going down without a fight or a well-thought-out plan of what would happen if, in fact, he did lose his beloved circus.
Even Joe, Anton’s right-hand man stages an incident involving young Jack the animal handler, where he has paid some young hoons to threaten him and his beloved animals in the hope of making headlines and attracting more visitors.
Unfortunately, the hoons go too far and Jack is hurt causing Joe to take responsibility for his actions. He apologises profusely to Jack and confesses everything to Anton, who despite feeling annoyed shows empathy for Joe and his intentions.
The fears of the circus performers come true as Frank has had enough of Antons' excuses and decides to put the circus up for auction which results in a simple suburban family acquiring the purchase.
This of course angers Anton who makes it very clear about his feelings toward Frank who ends up being fatally attacked at his home by a huge, ferocious beast.
The proud new owners of McCrumples Circus Bizarre, Peter, Ruth and their teenage daughter Diana come and meet the performers and take a good look around the property feeling excited about their new venture.
Diana who is rather annoyed at being uprooted from her home and her friends finds her love of animals a common interest with Jack.
It’s not long before Peter and Ruth notice the lack of enthusiasm from the performers and the uphill battle they seem to be facing in gaining their loyalty. Of course, things are made worse when Diana sees a huge beast emerge from the darkness spooking the animals and causing disruption to the circus audience who are startled by Diana's blood-curdling screams.
Unfortunately for Diana, no one else claims to have seen this beast and it is decided that the teenager is a trouble-maker.
The three young hoons return as paid antagonists but this time are responsible for hiding the fireworks which is a family favourite and therefore a huge let down to those in attendance at the circus. Yet another kick in the guts to Peter and Ruth.
Diana watches the hoons depart across the field happy with the easy money they made. But their smug attitudes quickly turn to fear as they are set upon by the beast who tears them apart and disappears back into the night.
Diana is terrified and runs to her parents who then call the sheriff, who seems very disinterested in what the girl has to say.
It’s obvious things are spiralling out of control for Peter and Ruth who believe they have bitten off more than they can chew. Rumours of this beast get out and affect attendance even more. People are in fear of being attacked.
Why is it that none of the performers seem worried about this beast? Could it be that they are in on it and that it was the plan all along to sabotage the circus for the new owners?
And why did Diana witness Anton on the premises talking to Joe? There is something strange about this circus, its’ heritage and its performers do not seem normal. It feels like there is something almost supernatural about the place and a darkness that cannot be explained.
The performers are too close-knit, they share more than just a love for this circus. What are they hiding? And will they reveal their secrets?
What will happen if Peter and Ruth give up on their dream of running a circus? If Anton takes it back, how will he build an audience again? Will it involve revealing the true nature of himself and the performers?
