A canine search and rescue volunteer leaves America with her dog, to find her younger sister who has gone missing in a small country town in Australia. To solve the mystery and survive an encounter with the beast, she must embrace her dead Mother’s belief in the supernatural, and a ritual called the blood oath.

Grace Stone, an expat Aussie living in Los Angeles, is visited by the ghost of her dead sister. The following day she is informed of her disappearance from their home town of Black River in Melbourne. Her rushed departure is paid for and organized by James Auborn - a wealthy blind philanthropist whose life Grace saved the previous day while competing in a Canicross endurance race.

At the airport she is met by her elderly grandfather, Malcolm Stone who is behaving in an agitated manner. Concerned about the disappearance of Grace’s sister Rebecca, he warns Grace of premonitions received by her deceased Mother, regarding a creature she called the beast. Unable to comprehend his mystic ramblings, Grace collects her luggage and her dog Sherlock, and taking the keys from Malcolm, drives them to Black River. Along the four hour journey, her grandfather astounds her by revealing that two other young girls have also vanished from the town.

Arriving in Black River, Grace and Sherlock have an altercation with Kent McAllister - one of the young vindictive son’s of a ruthless Scottish landowner. Kent swears retribution, and threatens to shoot her husky dog. UN-phased by the encounter, Grace and Sherlock are helped by a senior policeman, Steve Cochran, a past boyfriend. She persistently tries to gain access to the police report on her sister, without success. Her pleas fall on deaf ears and are denied, due to a higher authorities command to suppress a scandal that may besmirch the reputation of the profitable tourist town.

Later that day, she meets the enigmatic café owner, Melanie Drake and her dog Goliath - a 200-pound, highly trained, protective South African Mastiff, who never leaves her side. Meanwhile, Sherlock tracks the scent trail of Rebecca to Melanie Drake’s Land Rover. Continuing to follow Rebecca's scent trail into town, Grace visits the local pub to use the lavatory. Inside, she is accosted and restrained by two local thugs and beaten by Kent McAllister. Staggering to the police station, she refrains from reporting the incident. Rather, she chooses to contact James Auburn, the philanthropist, requesting assistance in gaining access to the police report and soliciting help from his bodyguard Max Statzkowski.

Returning to her original families lighthouse home, Grace see’s her Mother’s dead spirit, which tells her to remember her blood oath, and that when the beast attack’s, to run for the highway, and call for Rebecca’s help. Later Grace is told by her Grandfather of her Mother’s secret gift as a spirit medium, and is shown dark drawings done by her of a stalking beast, that would threaten the sister’s lives in the future. Upon the arrival of Max, they set out to solve the mysteries of Rebecca and the young girls disappearance's.

Separated from Max, Grace is lead by Sherlock to a vacant block of land outside of town. There she is followed by Kent, who attempts to kill them. Left for dead, Grace is found by Melanie Drake who confesses to kidnapping, and having her dog kill the girls. She leaves her with a sporting chance, a rifle and one bullet to execute her dog, before she suicides. Evading the dog down an old mine shaft, Grace discovers the bodies of her sister, and the other girls. Now she must run for her life to get to the highway, and believe that her dead sisters spirit, will come to save her in time. With the savage dog pursuing her through the Forrest, she reaches the highway, and calls out to her sister who appears in spirit.

Also racing to help Grace, are Max and Steve Cochran, who arrive in the nick of time, to witness what occurs. Grace and her dead sister confront the beast, and overcome it, by using Melanie Drakes own key command’s in Africanse. This is what the ghost of Graces sister has been trying to tell her in her dreams. The once savage dog Goliath is transformed and now adopts a new master, Grace Stone. Finally accepting that she to has inherited the gift of communing with the spirit world, Grace is reunited in spirit forever with her Mother and sister. Learning to have a deep sense of reverence, for the ancient ritual called the Blood Oath.
