After a few tokes off of a haunted joint, a lifelong loser taps into a reservoir of dark magic that transforms him into a giant arachnid.
SYNOPSIS:
It’s 2008 when Mitch, a mid-level drug dealer from the Inland Empire, raises the stakes with a big bet that could put him on Easy Street, or land him in a shallow grave. He takes a ragtag group of associates deep into the Hawaiian rainforest where they set up an elaborate marijuana grow operation. Unbeknownst to them, they sow the seeds in the haunted ground of a long-forgotten battle site.
The harvest is cursed by the restless spirits of those slain warriors, and the operation is doomed from the onset. While transporting the “merchandise” across the Pacific, a near mutiny sets off a series of horrific events that cause the ship to catch fire and founder in open waters.
Mitch is only able to save five of the 5,000 kilos from sinking into the dark fathoms. He makes it back to Moreno Valley, California, albeit, with his tail between his legs and a metric-shit-tonne of debt owed to a sociopathic Russian mobster who’s known to feed people to his pet bear.
Mitch consults his distribution guy, a stoner named Eddie Spaghetti, and it becomes obvious their options are limited, and their days are numbered. Out of desperation, Mitch concocts a plan to weaponize the bad juju coursing through the bodacious bud he managed to save. He’s already gleaned some insight into its dark power; fragmented memories from that fateful voyage across the Pacific rattle around in his mind. He knows that, under the right conditions, a few tokes of that weed are all it takes to summon the monster that lives within each of us.
Mitch recruits, Todd – a vague acquaintance of one of Eddy’s pothead customers – to unwittingly become the vessel that will dispatch the Russian maniac. Strangely, it will take a monster to teach both Mitch and Eddy something about loyalty, brotherhood, and honor.
