Hundreds of years after the Great Oil Crisis changed the earth forever, a resourceful scrapper named Sharkey leads a band of survivors through the treacherous jungles of North America known as The Nothing. As they navigate a decaying society, hostile factions, and the promise of salvation through portals abandoned by the government of the old world, Sharkey must confront the cost of following his dream to escape—and how that cost changes him.
SYNOPSIS:
In the aftermath of the Great Oil Crisis, and Climate change, the world has been transformed into a lush jungle. Civilization fractured as the last oil reserves ran dry, and humanity divided itself into “safe cities”, where portals were erected to lead the lucky to a new world, and The Nothing—an abandoned swathe of the United states where only the desperate and forsaken remain.
In the ruins of Lawrence, Kansas, Sharkey lives as a scrapper, scavenging remnants of the old world to sustain his community. Led by his father, Jack, and the fiery matron Mama, the town survives on resourcefulness and hard choices. When whispers emerge of a supply train carrying valuable resources, and a depot nearby where Sharkey might find ammo and weapons for the job—Sharkey sets out with a diverse and morally complex crew to secure hope for his people. This adventure ends with tragedy however, and soon enough he finds himself back in Lawrence, faced with a difficult decision; Ignore his father’s orders and confront the supply train anyways, or play the role of the dutiful son, destined to take over his father’s place one day.
Sharkey chooses the path less traveled, and his decision changes his life forever. Now, forced to endure heartache and pain for what he’s done, he’s banished, and leaves the town of Lawrence in search of the last functioning portal that remains; Hope for the future he always dreamed of the only thing driving him forward.
The journey through The Nothing is fraught with danger. From hostile factions to evolved predators and the looming specter of betrayal, Sharkey and his allies confront the remnants of a decayed civilization and the dark truths about their own humanity. Each episode deepens the tension, exploring themes of leadership, sacrifice, and the fragile nature of hope.
In the series’ climactic finale, the group faces a devastating realization that sometimes there is no such thing as a happily ever after, and the series ends on a dramatic decision that will leave spectators with the ability to decide for themselves what truly happened to Sharkey and his crew.
