After being revived from drowning, a surfer gains the ability to channel disembodied spirits and gets roped into helping a conniving cop avenge his partner, aided by the annoying ghost of a slain informant.
SYNOPSIS:
CHANNEL SURFING: What do you do when the channel changes you?
Bribed Police Sergeant Drake kills Tony, the key witness in the trial against crime lord Lucky Barone.
Surfer dude Brad is dying to catch a big wave, and he does. Die, that is. The big wave catches him. Paramedics bring him back. But he doesn’t come back alone.
After sunset, he channels ghosts. Unable to control the voices blurting out of his mouth, Brad embarrasses himself and others.
"You hated me being empty-headed; and now I’ve got a convention in here."
Channeling the dead isn’t always as fun as it sounds. Especially when a slain informant hijacks your vocal chords, incurring the wrath of those who murdered that rat in the first place.
Brad channels his girlfriend Cindy’s uncle and embarrasses her ritzy parents at her father’s exclusive club.
"How can you perform such an eerily accurate impression of my dearly departed brother when you never met?"
Cindy thinks Brad’s lost his mind. Doctor Fenhouser recommends an exorcist.
"Relax. You’re not crazy. But the voices in your head are."
Lone cop Rusty hears of Brad’s newfound gift and protects him from thugs Ben and Jerry, who aren’t as competent as Barone hoped.
"I’m haunted?!"
Sergeant Drake hates to think he left a job undone, so he leads the police attack against Brad and Rusty.
When Rusty gets shot, Brad must save him for a change. But a conk on the head robs him of his powers.
"How am I supposed to nail Barone if you’re no longer a Psychic Friend?"
Feeling their efforts have been in vain, Rusty slugs Brad. Which brings back Tony!
Rusty wants Brad to pose as Tony on the stand to testify by channeling his ghost. To ensure Brad’s cooperation, Rusty tricks him into thinking Barone killed Cindy. Brad agrees, willing to do anything to get revenge, even risk perjury and conspiracy charges. (Rusty doesn’t realize he can be implicated too.)
Brad learns to channel during the day with a special talisman from the incomparable self-promoting psychic Madame Tatiana, the author of several books she makes them buy.
"What have you been doing? Blabbing away for any soul that comes along?"
Brad and Rusty sneak into court past Drake and the SWAT team.
The talisman breaks; Barone’s attorney learns of Brad’s deception; and Tony double-crosses him too. What’s a channeling surfer to do?
