A fictional story woven into the fabric of historically true events of the Water Wars between Owens Valley and The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power of the early 1900s.
Sophie Blackstone arrives in Owens Valley with her children just as the California Water Wars begin to escalate. On the way into the valley she kills a man who tries to steal her horse. John Emerson (Fredrick Eaton) of the Los Angeles Water and Power District immediately targets her homestead for its water and lake. Sophie has no intention of selling her water or her property but Emerson is ruthless and uses the murder of the horse thief of discredit her in an attempt to steal her land.
SYNOPSIS:
As this happens a farmers rebellion against the aqueduct brews as ranchers and farmers organise to protect their water rights. Tom Mix, the actor, is shooting a movie in one section of the Alabama Hills at this time (true facts) as the ranchers dynamite the aqueduct. Yet their is more trouble for the ranchers close to home; the local bankers have borrowed funds (embezzled) from their own banks to pay for the dynamite and fund the fighting. They have used the funds from the ranchers and farmers who have already sold their land to Emerson. The valley and its residents edge a calamity as Sophie's son joins the rebellion and learns to dynamite as he leans towards manhood.
