SYNOPSIS:
When the ticking of your biological clock sounds like Big Ben and there’s no Prince Charming in sight, what’s a girl to do? In The Motherhood Project, three smart, striking roommates—Diane, Miranda, and Sophie—are tired of waiting for Mr. Right. Into their lives walks J.D. Golden, an attractive, under-employed math whiz who’s been kicked out of his girlfriend’s apartment and has nowhere to go. When J.D. mistakes the three women for lesbians, inspiration strikes Diane, and she sees a way to take control of their sex lives, fertility and destiny...at least for a month. Diane convinces Sophie and Miranda to get J.D. and his friend Skip drunk and take them home. In the morning, Diane proposes that J.D. move in with the three “lesbians” rent-free, in exchange for his no-strings-attached help in making babies. At first, J.D.’s shocked, but Skip convinces him: “David Crosby did it for Melissa Etheridge. And when was the last time you got laid by three total babes in one month?” During the project, gender roles are reversed and relationships are tested, with results that are at times funny, confusing and touching. Project leader Diane, a failed scientist with a dark secret and a super-star scientist mother, is driven to produce the über baby, and her quest for perfection pushes everyone past their limits. The experiment leads all of the characters into uncharted territory, heightening tensions and raising questions about the meaning of love, commitment and trust. Love tries to win the day as Sophie and J.D. fall for each other, but they’re kept apart by Sophie's loyalty to Diane and the ruse of her sexuality, until they face the fateful day. The truth comes out, causing a chain reaction which forces everyone into a good, old-fashioned leap of faith. In the end of this smart, sexy, gender role-bending romantic comedy, everyone finds that in love—and life—there’s no such thing as “no strings.”
