By Jared Chapman

GENRE: Adventure, Comedy, Drama
LOGLINE: Cancer-stricken Mark has never seen the ocean, so his three best friends kidnap him from his hospice care to take him on a road trip to Santa Monica.

SYNOPSIS:

The screenplay was adapted by Jared K. Chapman and Grant Fieldgrove from Grant's novel "The Lost and Found." Life isn’t coming up Mark Briggs these days. Two years ago, his parents died. Not long after, he was diagnosed with testicular cancer. When it continued to spread even after the operation, his girlfriend left him, alone, despondent, lost. His life began to resemble a country song. Reaching the lowest place in his life, he tried to end it all. But, as they say about low places, he’s got friends, and they don’t want to let him go just yet. Mark’s friends were Jake, Daniel, and Brad. Jake was a screw-up. He recently left his girlfriend and moved back in with parents, because he had trouble dealing with his friend’s illness and thought being alone would help. He couldn’t be more wrong. Daniel was always self-centered. Unable to deal with his friend’s illness, he initially avoided Mark until Brad forced him to come around. Brad was Mark’s oldest friend and the ringleader of the bunch. He was the only one who had his life somewhat together, married and with child. Brad and Mark were so close that his daughter, Mark’s goddaughter, Carolyn was named after Mrs. Briggs. According to Mark’s suicide note, he wanted his ashes spread over the Pacific Ocean. During Mark’s life, he had never seen the ocean or even the mountains, since he never traveled far from his home in Nebraska. Now, barely clinging to life, his friends decide the best medicine is time together and a road trip to Santa Monica. They know it won’t make him any better, but at least he’ll see beauty before he dies. He won’t just die alone in his home or in some hospital bed. They help him to find happiness in his death, and they even find themselves along the way.
