Scriptment is really just the portmanteau coined by James Cameron, who first used the concept. Typically, he’d hand it off to his chosen writer, feeling more confident that the script would encompass the tone and content he was hoping for. Legend has it that his scriptments can run over his screenplays. Titanic’s was in the 130-page range. I forget what Terminator’s was.

I’ll find when I expound upon my one-liner, it may start becoming a scriptment. In some cases, that’s the only form in which certain scenes exist, for quite some time, before I actually ‘script’ them.

It’s a great slapdash way for a writer-director, who’s planning on shooting it themselves, to hash out tone, character, add in a few ‘darlings’ (some of those choice bits of dialogue you don’t want to lose, or risk getting lost on some virtual napkin) for a concept in fresh development. I’m admittedly a fan.

Lily, you could play Drew Barrymore in a biopic for her younger years. Dead ringer! All the best, AMP
