I WON'T DANCE
By Allison Johnson

GENRE: Romance, Comedy
LOGLINE:

After losing their partners, Alaina, the blue-collar Belle of the Ball, must partner with her nemesis, Xavier, the bad boy of the Ballroom, for a shot at the title: National Teen Dance Champion. Not killing each other would be a win.

SYNOPSIS:

Amidst the rolling hills of Kentucky, the world of competitive Ballroom Dancing thrives in all its bedazzled glory. Inside the ballroom however, no sequin is safe, especially as nemeses – blue-collar, Alaina, and dance royalty, Xavier – compete for the title “National Teen Dance Champion”. Rivals since childhood, their antics have only gotten worse in their angsty teens.

Imagine how thrilled they are when Alaina’s partner tears his ACL, Xavier’s partner moves away, and everyone else worth having is already teamed up. It’s either give up, or worse: partner up.

Giving up is not an option, since for Alaina that means dog duty at the struggling family kennel, and for Xavier that means disappointing his legend of a father, PAULO RAMIREZ, whose dying wish is to see his son carry on his legacy. So, partner they must. Clearly, they’re going to need professional help. Enter Ukrainian dance legend, ALEC SMIRVONOVICH, who lets them tussle through Tango, whip through Waltz, and kick through Quickstep. Once they’re too tired to fight anymore, he channels their passion into the Rumba (the dance of love).

Bold, sensual, the perfect blend of give and take – Alaina and Xavier get lost together. Jiving like this, they win the next qualifying tournament to compete for the title in Vegas – and with a kiss, realize they may be getting more than just a dance partner.

Sadly, their unexplored feelings stay just that because Xavier’s dad is hospitalized. When Alaina finds out about Paulo’s condition (and that it’s drained the family bank account) she does what any extraordinary partner would do: organizes a fundraiser to fly a specialist in from India. To her surprise, Xavier is furious! Alaina turned his dad into the one thing he never wanted to be: a charity case.

Xavier severs the partnership immediately, replacing Alaina with the sexiest qualified candidate. Alaina is crushed...and angry...and doomed to wash dogs and scoop poop for the near future. Fortunately, her former dance partner limps back into the picture. Turns out, his doc said dancing is good rehab for his knee. She’ll get to compete!

Paulo’s health begins to improve. Xavier’s gratitude outweighs his feelings of betrayal. He makes amends with Alaina. But the morning of the finals, she catches Xavier’s new partner leaving his hotel room – wearing only his shirt. He swears nothing happened, but she feels duped.

The dance must go on. Hurt feelings give way to amped up childish antics: kicking, clawing, you name it. Until finally, during the Paso Doble, they abandon their partners to fight together using their own choreography. Once Rumba begins, they’re forced to face their true feelings as they realize true strength comes from vulnerability and winning may not involve a trophy.
