SYNOPSIS:
IRIS POTTS is a wild and sassy grandmother whose boyfriend, LEO PUCELLI, owns a neighborhood pub where homeless people are fed. Leo is about to lose the pub because he can’t make the mortgage payments. A group of church members, including Iris and her middle-aged, religious fanatic daughter, ROSE BUSH, meet at the pub to discuss the problem. Iris suggests that to raise money she and her elderly friend/rival MYRA HORN and some of the others do a striptease dance at the pub. The idea catches on, especially with GABE PUCELLI, a flamboyantly gay choreographer. Rose declines. There is absolutely no chance in hell she’ll do an exotic dance, after all Rose is head of the Decency Board and God wouldn’t forgive her and what if ELIOT, her husband, found out? Instead Rose writes Leo a check for half owed. Meanwhile, Rose’s troubles at home escalate. Eliot seems to have lost interest in her and spends most of his time at work. Enter DANTE MAGINI, the foreclosing landlord, who nurses a crush on Rose from the past. Iris deals with Rose’s objections to dance by sneaking into Rose’s bedroom at night and playing a tape of a man’s voice (claiming to be God) telling Rose she must dance. Rose wakes up willing to strip, but wanting to keep the event secret from her husband. As they announce the event there are protests in the neighborhood which only serve to promote it. TAMMY WYNOTT, an attractive forty-year-old stripper, former nun, joins in to help the ladies and becomes the star. Rose discovers much to her dismay, that her twenty-year-old son TED is engaged to be married to Tammy. At a preview performance for a group of elderly men, the old geezers go wild. One man suffers a heart attack but when the paramedics arrive, refuses to leave. Dante pursues the relationship but Rose stays true to Eliot. As a prank, Iris anonymously sends tickets for the striptease to Eliot. On the big night, Rose gets angry when she sees Eliot in the audience. But when Rose learns, Tammy, the star is ill she realizes she has no choice but to dance or lose half of her investment. In the Tone of " The Golden Girls" meets "The Full Monte."
