When a depressed musician and an arrogant teen prodigy discover the secret to time travel, the former plans to correct his past mistakes and propel his mediocre rock band to fame and fortune. The catch: he can only do it while drunk, which is how his life ended up this way in the first place...
SYNOPSIS:
Depressed MARIO dwells on his life's many regrets, including the fact
that he's not a successful musician like his idols, who reached
superstardom and changed the landscape of music but died by the age of
27 (otherwise known as "The 27 Club"). As he nears his 27th birthday,
Mario decides to play one last show with his mediocre band,
"Suh-Dis-Dik," before making a second attempt to end his life, all the
while wondering what he would do differently, if he could do it all over
again.
Suh-Dis-Dik plays a disappointing set to a nearly empty crowd and, at
the afterparty, Mario does some soul searching and winds up in a drink
off with the only other person still conscious: a pompous homeschooled
high school kid named LEONARDO. While engaged in a battle of wits, and
on their way to becoming fast frenemies, Mario and Leonardo
inadvertently discover a mysterious rum that grants them the ability to time travel. The unlikely duo vanishes and reappears at Mario's home the previous night when Mario attempted to overdose on heroin.
Perplexed, intoxicated, and cautious to avoid their "past" selves, Mario
and Leonardo open up about what's been holding them back in life and
discuss the consequences they'd face if they used time
travel to alter the course of their lives. Mario wants a do-over, to
repair lost relationships, seize missed opportunities, and propel his
band from the gutter to the limelight but, though Leonardo is distraught
over losing his father to a fatal car accident, he thinks intervening
in the incident (or any incident) would be selfish and unethical.
Before they can reach a consensus or discover any clues regarding their
chronological displacement, Mario disappears and returns to his present time,
while Leonardo does not. Without Leonardo there to stop him from making
his wildest dreams come true, Mario has a tough decision to make: he
can either use his elixir to locate Leonardo and return him to the
present, or he can get to work forging his perfect life without
opposition. But now that he realizes what power he holds -- and what it
could mean for his career and future -- can Mario master the art of time and space as we know it?
