After six young women are ritualistically slaughtered, a struggling private investigator is hired to hunt down the killer, unaware she is his intended target.
SYNOPSIS:
Something’s not quite right in this decaying Rust Belt city. Whether it’s the approaching blood-red moon, or the gaseous tails of multiple comets streaking across the night sky, or the sense of impending doom slowly overtaking the city’s residents, something’s definitely off.
And then…the savage slaughter of a young woman in a parking lot. The police are at a loss for answers, so the dead woman’s roommate hires private investigator Candy Jurelle to find the killer.
Candy’s investigation reveals that there have been five similar unexplained killings across the country in the past six months. As Candy digs deeper she also discovers that the murdered women were all adopted from the same agency in Pennsylvania.
She travels to the long-shuttered agency and finds a hidden file showing that she, too, was adopted as a small child from this very agency and is of the same age as the victims. But something else is equally troubling: notes in the file reveal that the staff was terrified of her, due to her "uncontrollable screaming fits accompanied by inhuman barking and guttural noise", which was often followed by displays of unnatural phenomena.
Candy, realizing she may now be a target for the killer, steps up her investigation and uncovers a suspect. She breaks into his residence and finds damning evidence. While there, the suspect returns home and he, the police and Candy have a final horrific showdown as Candy discovers the true, malevolent identity of the killer and her shocking role in the killer’s plans.
