A young witch comes of age among three families who secretly use witchcraft to control a Nevada city.

SYNOPSIS:

1860, Baker City, Nevada. Deep in the shadows, a sacred ritual is taking place. The ancient and powerful High Priestess Wheyfrid is giving an audience to HECUBA, a young Witch who is her most promising student.

But Hecuba is too promising. In a complete reversal of Wiccan tradition, Hecuba makes a grab for power. Although Wheyfrid is strong, the attack is unexpected, and the young and powerful Hecuba overcomes her. The backlash from this coup plunges her coven into a bloody underground war with the Wiccan community that lasts for fifty years.

Today. Hecuba is feared as the High Priestess of one of the darkest and most powerful Covens in history. She has split the city of Baker City with the two other powerful Covens that inhabit it. Gardner’s Coven controls the legal trade of Baker City, Hecuba controls the illegal trade, and Deanara’s Coven, running a prestigious private school on the outskirts of town, simply stays out of the way.

Hecuba’s Coven makes their livelihood through three major interests: Gambling (Specifically a casino, managed by MOIRA TALENT, where no one ever seems to win but no one ever seems to mind.), protection (Handled by strong-arm Witch HEATHER KNIGHT), and an efficient drug trade (KARA VINELAND makes sure this operation runs smoothly.). While Hecuba commands all, the day to day operations are supervised by MORGAN, Hecuba’s right hand, and a powerful Witch in her own right.

Gardner’s Coven prefers to make its fortune through legal means. Fronted by Gardner Industries, they seem to own every building, contract, and business interest in town. They are rarely challenged and have grown as rapidly and as large as the boundaries of Baker City will allow. The coven/corporation is run by JOHN GARDNER, High Priest and C.E.O., and his wife ALLISON, High Priestess and C.F.O. The day to day operations are handled by ANDREW STELE, as proficient with the art of the deal as with the art of magick. DAVID GARDNER, dashing young son of John and Allison, fulfills his duties adequately as Director of Marketing, although he would rather be out partying with his friends, and AMBER HAWKE, V.P. of Operations, is always ready to get her hands dirty if any local problems arise.

Deanara’s Coven has been the most faithful to the “Wiccan Rede” (‘An it harm none, do as ye will’). Her coven has subsisted happily for the last hundred years with DEANARA as both High Priestess of the coven and Headmistress of the Deanaric School for Girls. The Deanaric School is an exclusive private boarding school on the outskirts of town that caters to both mundane and Wiccan students. Other Witches in the coven include LETO, who struggles to balance her responsibilities as a single mother with her Wiccan duties as well as her teaching ones, and THALIA, another teacher at the school who may become the most powerful Witch of them all.

Cognizant of the fifty years of horror following Hecuba’s ascension, Deanara has chosen, for the safety of her coven, to be content with a small but successful school where she and her coven can live and practice in peace. Their isolationist, pacifist stance has allowed them to escape the notice of the other two covens.

All that is about to change.

Matters become complicated when DIANA, Deanara’s rebellious daughter, turns 18 and decides that the isolated life is not for her. Ostensibly to protect her mother, but truly to see what the world has to offer, Diana runs off to explore what the world has to offer a powerful young Witch.

She first visits Gardner Industries. While the corporate world is not exactly the kind of action she is looking for, she does happen to meet David Gardner on her visit. Sparks fly almost immediately, and an attraction begins that will complicate matters to an even greater degree.

Diana then moves on to Hecuba’s Coven and it is in this world of darkness and intrigue that she believes she has found what she is looking for.

When Deanara discovers what has transpired, she decides she must act to protect her daughter. With both David Gardner and Hecuba taking an interest in Diana, Deanara is forced to use all the power and allies at her command to save her daughter. As the series develops, Deanara’s efforts only cause her to become more and more entangled in the affairs of the other covens, ultimately forcing her into a position where she must fight to protect the very way of life her coven has enjoyed for nearly one hundred years.
