A LOYAL PR CONSULTANT RUDELY AWAKENS WHEN MYSTERIOUS DEATHS CONFRONT HER WITH BIGPHARM'S SOCIOPATH GATE KEEPER, WHO FIERCELY PROTECTS THE SECRET ABOUT THEIR HAPPINESS PILLS
SYNOPSIS:
Helena, the hub of the PR team in a pharmaceutical company gets an ample rise just before the VP announces a sink or swim campaign for a new stress reducing drug. He introduces Steven, a new colleague, assigned to watch out for legal pitfalls. Steven, a sociopath, trying to take the lead of the team, promptly debases Helena.
Helena’s daughter, a GP, warns her about a hot discussion in the media regarding similar drugs. Helena waves it off as irrelevant for her company. But seeing a man in hospital die of a similar drug alarms her. Back in the office Steven ridicules her concern.
When Helena’s daughter tells how one of her patients died of a similar drug, Helena prompts her colleagues to ask the VP for information showing their product is better than that. Steven manipulates the colleagues, who back him up and block her initiative. To suppress her doubts, Helena asks the lab, and finds out they speed-developed the drug. The colleagues now take Steven’s arguments at face value and stigmatize Helena as paranoid. The Pharmaceutical Agency’s demand to add a warning for side effects to the referral note lifts the conflict to new heights. A colleague takes one of the pills and collapses soon after.
The hospital saves the colleague at the last minute. The doctor tricks Helena to hand him the full list of the drug’s content. She has broken her vow and seeks advise from a long-lost student friend, now a legal expert. He suggests using the situation to demask the money wolfing BigPharm company and reconnects her with their former grass root group. There her ex-lover accuses her of being a sell-out.
Now Steven claims the colleague’s collapse was due to an overdose. While Helena, confused, seeks evidence for or against Steven’s claim, her legal friend unveils him as a fraud, suggesting he is a stooge for the VP, Helena’s confidant.
Shocked, Helena musters courage to seek help from her ex-lover, an expert in stress-reducing drugs. After some reconciliating arguments, he explains that the colleague’s quick recovery is proof of an opioid in the drug and promises Helena to take care of the problem. Now Helena remembers the incident when the colleague took the pill. She stuck her tongue out. There was only one pill on her tongue. The ex-lover confronts the CEO and the VP with his knowledge. They all end up in the PR department where Helena finds the so-called overdose in Steven’s drawer. In a hot-tempered argument the VP finds out that the CEO has kept him in the dark about the opioid. Steven and the CEO are sacked, and Helena is made the head of a new ethical department.
