SYNOPSIS:
1962. Moscow Red Square. A military march of men and machines as thousands honor the new leaders of the Soviet Union, Nikita Krushchev. A young Marco Andreovich marches with the soldiers of his unit. On a side street, a young Sergei Andropov emerges from a black Daimler and goes inside a nondescript government building.
2000. Andropov becomes President as Andreovich climbs the ranks of power.
Present Day. A bright, sunny day as Alexandra Bishop rides full gallop across the open range of her families ranch near Dallas. Her uncle negotiating with Saudi Businessman Omar Kassani. The deal sealed, dinner turns to politics as Alex and Omar match wits on the world.
Alex returns to her news job as Kassani returns to a Mid East dissolving into chaos. In Moscow, Marco makes his own play for power as Russia extends it's reach to reclaim the geopolitical control of the Soviet Union, from the Ukraine to new alliances in the Mid East. Kassani invites Alex to a Summit in Moscow.
A State dinner turns to coup d'etat as Marco assumes military control through a side deal with Kassani's brother, Nahid, a Mid East Power Broker. The delegations dismissed and borders closed as Alex is kept on to report on the rise of a New Russia.
Marco accelerates his political and military influence from the North Sea to Ukraine and the Mid East. For Alex, her Kremlin controlled reports change as Marco challenges her to see his Russia. The lines of politics and power blur as she falls in love with him.
Kassani leverages with his brother to get her out as Marco begins his campaign for President. Held under guard, Alex bribes a soldier to get to a phone. As she dials Omar's number, she sees crates of munitions marked with the Kassani emblem and realizes the coup is not Russian idealism but a power play and she is a pawn.
Kassani finds her trapped on a troop train. Alex learns the truth of Nahid's deal wit Marco and agrees to Omar's demand if Marco wins. Alex returns to Marco to be held at his remote farm in southern Russia. As he leaves for the election, he tells her she was never part of the deal. She just happened.
That night, the results are announced. Marco is killed by a General loyal to Andropov's regime. As riots break out across Russia, one of Marco's men arrives at the farmhouse and takes Alex to the Russian border with Turkey. In shock, she protests. The Rebel whips the horse, saying it was Marco's wish.
Omar waits on the other side of the border as Alex and the horse strain forward along the mountain pass. Their silhouette against the sentry of trees on the Russian ridge.
