POWER AND THE POSSIBLE

POWER AND THE POSSIBLE
By Stephen Paul Chong

GENRE: Drama
LOGLINE:

The torment of the loss of his parents catapults a teenage boy into an
adult world of corruption, revenge and misguided love. He inherits a
sacred book of wisdom that guides his struggle to become a man.

SYNOPSIS:

After the traumatic loss of his parents, teenage ALFRED is lost, alone and tormented by nightmares. His only link to his past is his family’s heirloom, the sacred BOOK OF MYSTERIES, which he treasures. He is fostered into the care of nurse-MARY (who herself lost a son many years ago).

As Alfred settles to his new life he attends a new school, but is immediately confronted and bullied by BRIAN (son of the CHIEF MAGISTRATE). The wisdom from the Book of Mysteries helps Alfred stand up to Brian’s aggression but he has created an enemy. Alfred must choose between the disclosure of Brian’s bullying or remaining tacit.

When exploring his new community, Alfred chances upon an altar and secret ritual. He espies Brian being inducted into a druid-like fraternity - but his presence is discovered and his life threatened. With Alfred traumatized and afraid, Mary seeks help from a trusted old mentor, HORATIO, but he is murdered (by the Chief Magistrate) before he can help them. Enraged after she discovers her friend’s body and the clues left behind to aid her, Mary calls upon a mastermind criminal, CANASTA to keep her foster-son safe and seek retribution for her friend’s murder.

Mary and Canasta, along with his criminal associates, BRUISER, NIFTY & CARVER retrieve a dossier that uncovers the secrets of the fraternity, plus the source of much graft and corruption in the town. Meanwhile, Mary’s house is ransacked and Alfred badly assaulted. As his life hangs in balance, Mary’s rage explodes.

While recovering from his injuries, Alfred befriends Canasta’s henchmen and stand-over man, BRUISER. Alfred urges his new friend to delve into the wisdom of the Book of Mysteries to find his highest worth. Meanwhile, Mary and Canasta seek payback. They plot to disclose the Magistrate and Chief of Police’s corruption by kidnapping Brian and holding him to ransom against public disclosure.

Final confrontation ensues between all of the misguided adults. It is only Alfred, with the help of the wisdom from the Book of Mysteries, who is able to rise above the adult world of corruption, retribution and misguided love that surrounds him as the teenage boy becomes a man.
