Sam invited Mikaela on a trip to Lake Michigan where he’s going with some friends of his. His buddy Austin has a cabin near the lake and wanted a get together. Mikaela agrees, though she’s apprehensive about Austin’s girlfriend Jessica being there. The two of them have a history that began with a misunderstanding involving Mikaela’s relationship with Austin. Sam tells Mikaela that he’ll make certain there’s no problems.

At the cabin, Austin is the first person they meet, he’s mending a fence that he claims was damaged by kids, and he tells them that everyone else is inside the cabin.

Inside the cabin, Mikaela and Sam meet Jessica who has assigned the bedrooms by couples. While everything is cordial, Mikaela senses something wrong about this, but doesn’t know what’s wrong.

In the bedroom, Jessica has left Mikaela and Sam to figure out their sleeping arrangements, but Mikaela confides in Sam that something’s wrong. She’s not certain what it is as she’s spent the majority of her training on her unique ability rather than any of the more helpful abilities. It’s going to be a hard time to relax with this hanging around in her head.

The friends enjoy a bonfire where Mikaela notices something watching her in the darkness. She’s drawn to it until Sam notices something wrong with her and breaks the trance. Mikaela knows something’s wrong now and wants to investigate.

During the time on the beach, Mikaela reunites with a retired paranormal investigator named Jason Roberts, she exchanged numbers with him with the intention of keeping in contact but is now looking to find evidence of demonic invasion.

Eventually Mikaela finds evidence in several ways, the possessed actions of a few of her friends, the disappearance of another, and finding a portal to the demonic realm where Mikaela finds that the demon hunting her is the same one from two decades before. Before it sends Mikaela away, it gives Mikaela a riddle as clue to its name.

Mikaela frees herself from the demonic realm and finds that the rest of her friends are gone, leaving only her, with Sam allegedly in town. Mikaela is knocked out by her possessed friends, Austin and Jessica.

Waking up in the basement, Mikaela learns that Austin and Jessica are possessed by servants of the demon. The demon wants Mikaela but wants her broken before it can take her. The servants tell Mikaela that they’re heading to the beach to find more information about where Sam is.

After the servants leave, Mikaela is freed by Sam. They get Roberts to help them out for a final confrontation with the demon. The name of the demon is figured out, and Mikaela uses the name to free her friends and banish it from her life forever.

The end has Mikaela seemingly free from the demon, though knowing the name could inadvertently summon it back to her.
