When a cynical saloonkeeper with a penchant for gin suffers head trauma, the alcohol takes on the guise of a beautiful woman from ancient times who seduces him and compels him to commit a sin there is no coming back from.

Gin and Sin is a time-travel detective story that mirrors today’s political climate. It also re-imagines The Christ Tale. Its climax rattles our hero because it’s a fantasy of his own making, not unlike the Leonardo DiCaprio character in the thriller Shutter Island. As President Richard Nixon loomed large but was never seen in the film All the President’s Men with Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford, president-elect Donald Trump is the driving force behind the narrative in Gin and Sin, but he is never seen, either. Still, his influence looms large as an ogre’s shadow.

Our story begins on South Padre Island in Texas where a saloonkeeper nurses his saving grace, a glass of gin. His name is DIZZY L’AMOUR and he blames himself for crashing the car which sent his girlfriend ERICA AMES through the windshield, disfiguring her for life. He was stoned on coke and gin when he picked her up at the airport on a snowy night in Austin. She’s a huge Trump supporter (he is not) and she has big news: his Christmas present. But the car spins out of control before he learns what the big news is. Unable to face his sin, he maintains his distance from Erica, continues to drink too much and befriends an enigmatic couple, recent transplants to South Padre. MURPHY QUINN and his wife, GIN. They live aboard a warship from World War II called a PT boat. PT stands for “patrol torpedo”. Quinn calls it the President Trump.

With Quinn’s tacit approval Gin seduces Dizzy and takes him back in time to show him who she really is: a failed Disciple of Christ. Her husband bears even greater notoriety. He is QUINTUS, the man who mocked Jesus during the Crucifixion and was subsequently cursed to wander the earth forever. History has a name for this person: THE WANDERING JEW. She also shows Dizzy how they created the so-called "Deep State" to keep humanity from going off the rails. She initiates Dizzy into their secret society by killing him; then resurrects him with a sip from The Holy Grail. The deliverance of America from fascism rests with those brave enough to fight for it, she says, even if those heroes are lathered in sin. Social media, Fox News, the inscrutable Q and Donald Trump. They have doomed society, she explains. Therefore, she and her husband are going to put an end to this maniacal influence, but they need Dizzy’s help. Dizzy agrees to offer his assistance unaware that the immortals intend to commit the crime of the century.

Donald Trump is coming to South Padre Island to watch the launch of the next Elon Musk rocket. Gin and Quinn intend to use the torpedoes aboard the President Trump against the head of state. But when Dizzy learns that there is also a nuclear bomb in play, he does everything in his power to save Erica, the islanders and, yes, even Trump, from destruction.

After the nuclear blast, his mind’s eye focuses on reality—he is in a coma and has been for seven years when he lost control of the car on the icy road and Erica went through the windshield. She survived but he hit his head so hard on the steering wheel he fell into a coma.

The horrors he experienced with Gin and Quinn were all in his head, playing like a movie. Seemingly lost in a vegetative state, he is, nevertheless, sentient. Had it not been for DR. VIRGINIA “GIN” PRIOR, he would have been taken off life support long ago. She employs a test developed by a Cambridge neurologist to prove cognizance in coma patients. It involves the game of tennis. Allusions to tennis that Dizzy can’t explain appear periodically throughout his dreams—and the script. Dizzy realizes something else, too. His name isn’t Dizzy. He’s Quinn! And the sin his fantasy character, Quintus, committed against Christ 2000 years ago is a reflection of the sin he committed against Erica. That’s guilt for ya.

Due to Dr. Prior’s passion and the fact that sometimes in life miracles really do occur, Murphy Quinn emerges from his coma.
