AFTERLIGHT
By Rick Blackwell

GENRE: Sci-fi, Horror
LOGLINE:

The world ended with a flash of light. Those still alive quickly formed groups to survive hunger, radiation, and unimaginable horrors as they search for a place not touched by the light.

SYNOPSIS:

In the not-so-distant future, the radiation and light from a star that exploded millions and millions of miles away will hit the earth, and life as we know it will end. This story begins one year after the light hits. It follows a group of survivors trying to make it somewhere, anywhere, that the light hasn't poisoned. With crops destroyed and the soil poisoned, food becomes scarce, and people become desperate to survive, with some groups turning to cannibalism. As time goes on, mutations begin to appear in all forms of life, bringing with them a new set of horrors to survive. A rumor of a place where the light didn't touch, known as sanctuary, brings hope for the survivors. When the group's leader is killed, it is up to a former abused wife to stand up and lead in order to get them safely to sanctuary. She leads them through the desert when they come across piles of clothing just sitting everywhere, along with weapons and ammunition. Two of their members are selected to go investigate. Sarah becomes distracted by the many things on the piles she needs, leaving Roger without backup. While investigating the large hole beside the piles of clothing, Roger is attacked by a mole-like creature. Injured, tries to escape the hole. Kara quickly comes to his aid, grabs hold of his hands, and tries to pull him up. Suddenly, it becomes easy to pull him up. Kara goes into shock when she sees that half of Roger's body is missing. They continue on their journey to find sanctuary. At the point of almost losing hope, they come across a lush forest at the end of the desert. They cautiously enter the strange vegetation, unknowing what danger lies ahead.
