SYNOPSIS:

http://www.magicalrealism.us/2014/05/12/lenins-body/ 1. Most people don’t know the history of Lenin’s last night before burial. The story begins with two business men at the bar in the restaurant Glavpivtorg at Luybyanka. Alexei is a struggling entrepreneur and Dmitry is an underpaid university lecturer. They are drinking at the bar and watching the news of Lenin’s body being removed from the tomb and relocated for burial. 2. The two men with Lenin’s body are chased by former KGB officers and Moscow police. 3. Two businessmen are able to steal Lenin's body the night before it is buried. They are able to do this in part by magic and part by just dumb luck. They have a plan but it doesn't work out and now circumstances demand that they walk and drive around Moscow until the next morning. 4. Lenin's Body is very political as each scene location is symbolic of the Soviet times. From restaurants, to Lubyanka prison, to the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, each location represents some form of Soviet oppression. For example our main characters meet a painter who is standing on the sidewalk in the middle of the night throwing stones at the psychiatric hospital he was in. This designed to show the political abuse of psychiatry in the Soviet Union. Our two characters, with Lenin's Body, must traverse the city at night. When the police appear on the right, then they turn to the left. The chase leads them all over the historic locations in Moscow all with a link to the Soviet times. It is a comedy but also a geo-political tour of Moscow's soviet experience. The chase through churches, graveyards, grocery stores, memorials, hospitals, hotels, libraries and each location has a message and story from the Soviet era. HOW TO THINK ABOUT THIS FILM Ÿ Magical Realism - Magic vodka is the only thing that allows them to get away with the crime. Ÿ Physical Comedy - Transporting a dead body can be comedic. He is dropped, stolen, given CPR, electrocuted, bitten by a dog, falls into the river, taken to the garbage dump, and is dry cleaned. Ÿ Political Satire - Our film pokes plenty of fun at communists and the icon Lenin who should have been buried a very long time ago. Ÿ Social Satire - All of Moscow is moving around but still they are asleep. Almost no one in today’s Moscow even notices the dead body. Lenin sits in a café and no one even looks at him. Ÿ GeoPic - This is Russia’s first GeoPic. Geography and Moscow locations are very symbolic and add meaning to the film. Ÿ Improvisational Comedy - Because the script is in English, I would (if possible) give the actors a lot of leeway on dialogue. Ÿ Chase Film - A previous communist operative chases the characters through the movie – first with a pistol and then with a large stick. WHAT THIS SCRIPT HAVE GOING FOR US Shock value that appeals to young people. ŸPolitical controversy in the media. ŸLenin nostalgia that appeals to the older audience. Our still photographer can post on social media. I would take 1000s of stills while making the film. Then once done trickle them out as if we are making the film.
