http://www.magicalrealism.us/2013/06/07/pyotr-alexeyevich-the-vampire-sl... In 1672, the day Pyotr Alexeyevich is born, the palace vampires are watching. Peter and his mentally retarded brother Ivan V are soon co-Tzars. But Ivan has been ruined by the vampires (bitten only twice) not made into a vampire but useless to Russia. Peter learns of the vampires as a young boy of ten. Peter wants to know what is wrong with Ivan, who would sit for hours without moving. Nikita Zotov, a trusted advisor and teacher, explains to him. The primary enemy of the monarchy are three broods of vampires — one in the North, one in the South and one in the Streltsy. For entertainment, the restless young Tsar is given barracks, an army of children, uniforms, and real weapons and munitions. Unlike other young kings, Peter does not appoint himself commander. Instead, he gives himself the lowest rank in the pretend army and gives the job of commander to another boy. Peter witnesses the ruthlessness of the vampires as they kill the boy commander mistaking him for Peter. The vampires must explain to Charles XII how odd it is that the Tsar would be a mere private, even playing a boys game. Peter witnesses violence as a child as people and vampires fight over the thrown. In 1682, vampires in the Streltsy rampage and kill Artamon Matveyev and most of his mother’s family. The boy is terrorized but (even at a young age) after a short time looks determined to have revenge. As a young adult, Peter has learned how to draw the vampires out of hiding. Being a great warrior, he doesn’t wait for the vampires who lie in ambush to stab him in the back. Peter learns that vampires, who would be normally calm waiting for their advantage, can be drawn into the open by what seems to be drunken foolishness and the perception of weakness. So twice Peter lays a trap for them. Peter, now the sole Tsar of Russia, organizes himself and several dozen of his friends into The All-Joking, All-Drunken Synod of Fools and Jesters, a “synod” that parodies religion and draw vampires into the open. Zotov is appointed the “Prince-Pope” of the Synod. After first drinking to everyone’s health, he “blesses” the group with the Sign of the Cross, using two long Dutch pipes. On holidays, the games are played on the streets of Moscow, and at Christmas, the Jolly Company rides around the city singing on sleighs, with Zotov at their head, on a sleigh pulled by twelve bald men. Vampires attack the drunken parade, and you think all is lost, but the slightly drunk Peter and company can fight just as well as if they were sober. Also, Peter convinces Zotov to marry Anna Pashkova, a widow many years Zotov’s junior. The wedding is solemnized by the court in masks. Human guests are instructed to pre-register with their costumes listed so as not to look too similar to the vampire guests and so the vampires can be easily recognized. The event is prepared for three months, as a “world turned upside-down”. The more odd things become, the more the vampires reveal themselves. To draw the vampires to the party, Jolly Company are dressed in ridiculous regalia, and many humans behaved exactly opposite to the norm; invitations to the vampire guests are delivered by stammerers, the bridesmen were cripples, the runners were fat men with gout, the priest is one hundred years old (and blind). During the wedding celebration, the Drunken Synod almost routinely eliminates the vampires, who become drunk on odd behavior. In 1698, vampires in the Streltsy kill their commanding officers and make their way to Moscow, getting ready to punish the humans and destroy the true Cross of Christ (temporarily in the Kremlin). The rebels (approx. 4,000 vampires) intended to install Sophia’s vampire lover Vasili Golitsyn, who has been in exile. Peter I orders four regiments (2,300 men) and a cavalry unit to attack the Streltsy. The Streltsy vampires are defeated not far from the New Jerusalem Monastery. Peter loves the savage tortures of vampires while investigating the odd things that give them pain. There are two battles with Ottoman vampires. The Ottoman Sultan is leader of the vampires in the South. The first Azov campaign begins in the spring of 1695, is a land battle. Peter the Great’s first siege fails. The Turkish vampire fort prevails. The second Azov campaign involved a navy and land attack and the fort, full of Turkish vampires surrenders. There are two great battles with Swedish vampires. Charles XII of Sweden is Peter’s arch enemy, relentless and menacing vampire in the North. The Battle of Narva is won by the Swedish vampires. Battle of Poltava, Peter wins. Peter builds Peter and Paul fortress, which contains the Peter and Paul Cathedral, to protect the true Cross of Christ. A large thumping stick can be secretly removed from the cross and being the most holy of wood is the most potent weapon in Peter’s arsenal. Simply pointing the stick causes vampires to wretch in pain. The cathedral is the burial place of most of the Russian tsars. And while the fort never is attacked by vampires, it is their single most desired object. Peter dies and is buried in Peter and Paul Cathedral. The credits roll but before the film is done we see that the day Nicholas Romanov is born the Vampires were watching and measuring the future Tzar. He too will battle vampires. PART II – Catharine the Great, Vampire Slayer PART III – Nicholas II, Vampire Slayer PART IV – Andrei Sakharov, Vampire Slayer PART V – Lech Walesa, Vampire Slayer
