WINDY

WINDY
By Todd Sorrell

GENRE: Sci-fi, Comedy
LOGLINE:

When the sole girl in a gang of high school geeks develops an unwanted superpower, jealousy and dissension rattle the group.

SYNOPSIS:

Australian transplant Divina enjoys passing afterschool hours at "the Lair", the designated hangout of a trio of high school geeks at Elroy's midwest suburban home. She enjoys posting pictures of her staged action figures to social media, while Elroy practices his gaming in preparation for tournaments, and best friend Carmine toils away at his imaginative comic book stories.

The boys treat Divina like a second class citizen, until she develops a superpower -- one that she doesn't want. Whenever she says something meaningful, she creates drafts of wind around her. The boys think this is a wild windfall, and try to exploit it for their nerdy benefits. Divina simply wants to rid herself of the uncontrollable ability.

After some dissension and a brief falling out, the boys agree to help her purge the preternatural power over a weekend bootcamp. They employ a variety of crazy tactics and strategies, all to no avail. Fatigued, the threesome speculate why she alone developed a superpower when the boys would be overjoyed to be in her place. She proffers that perhaps the universe was trying to teach the boys that girls are prized people, with or without superpowers, and this was the only way to help them see her with fresh eyes.

Reaching for straws, Divina tries one last strategy. She recites a series of lies -- statements with the exact opposite meaning of what she feels. The strategy works, and they are overjoyed... until the tactic results in a new superpower: a seismic tremor.

Not a bad start, Todd. But it's currently not giving us enough information. Remember: this logline needs to really sell the concept to someone who knows nothing about it and doesn't have to care. I suggest covering some key details: what's the superpower? why is it unwanted? How is this going to lead to humorous scenarios? Why is it important they're geeks? What's the central dramatic conflict? Who is in opposition of the protagonist's story goal? What's at stake?

I know I've listed a lot of questions there, but if you can start to answer some of these, it'll throw more light and hopefully create more intrigue on your story.

Feel free to message me directly if you'd like any more help with logline creation.
