SIGHT UNSEEN
By Susan Mac Nicol

GENRE: Romance, Drama
LOGLINE:

Tragedy brings together a reserved but brilliant sculptor and an outgoing gallery owner, friends whose love was side-tracked—but was always meant to be deeper.

SYNOPSIS:

Nathan ‘Nate’ Powell seemingly has it all. A hot boyfriend, a status as an up and coming sculptor and the passion of his art to sustain him. And he lives in the exciting city of L.A. What more could he want?

One night Nate goes jogging in his neighborhood, and is struck by a car, and everything changes. Nate is left blind and having to cope with life in a very different way. His boyfriend Jon is drifting away, frustrated by the fact his once sighted lover is not the man he used to be.

The presence of Nate’s best friend Cody Fisher is what makes Nate's ordeal more palatable. They have history; a passionate weekend in the Florida Keys, a weekend that spurred Nate to come out to his family. From then on, everything went downhill. Nate went home and came out to his devoutly religious parents. Nate’s father is a total despot, supported by his equally unlikeable wife and Nate’s mother. He tells Nate to leave and threatens to cause trouble for Cody and his family if Nate doesn’t break it off. Nate does this to protect Cody and his family, and in doing so, breaks Cody’s heart.

Nate and Cody remain as only friends despite each of them yearning for something more.

Brought even closer together by Nate’s current situation, Cody becomes Nate’s anchor. The support of friends, Cody’s parents and Nate’s Blind Support Counsellor, Suzanne, becomes Nate’s world and he slowly gains his confidence back to begin sculpting again. Cody owns an art gallery in LA and encourages Nate to make items he can show off in his business.

Nate’s art unconsciously shows his deepening love for Cody but he’s still not convinced Cody still feels the same. Cody shows his love in being there for Nate at every turn, even when Nate decides he wants to date again and meets a man called Blu at a local club.

Luckily, Blu realises straight away that Nate has feelings for someone else, even if Nate doesn’t know it himself. Or is still denying it. Blu lets Nate down gently and the two men form a bond of friendship. Between learning to be whole again, in a different way, Nate and Cody grow closer and the strands that once wound lightly between them become stronger. Their attraction to each other deepens until it gets to the point where neither man can fool themselves any longer.

One night at an art showing in Cody’s gallery, Nate appears with a special sculpture and tells Cody what he feels for him. The gates are opened and both men finally confess what they’ve been feeling all the time they’ve been fighting it. Surrounded again by good friends, they finally come together as a couple. They also finally get back at Nate’s father for his cruel and vindictive deed that broke Nate’s spirit, and Nate decides the only family he needs is the one he’s surrounded himself with.
