SHOOTING STAR

An aging Hollywood film veteran attempts to derail and uplift three twenty-somethings set on a path of self-destruction.

SYNOPSIS:

SHOOTING STAR is a realistic drama set in Hollywood. Bound by the choices he made in the wild days of his youth, an aging gay man recognizes that he has limited time left to make his mark and leave behind a legacy. He focuses on altering the lives of three residents in his building who appear to be dead-set on destroying themselves and any chance they have for success. Insistent that they learn from his mistakes, he gently but firmly guides them away from the traumas that have derailed them and into the lives that they deserve.

CHARACTER FORMULATIONS:

PETER: A 60-ish gay immigrant from Hungary, Peter finds love larger than life in a stage and screen star in New York City in 1966.As Hayden’s popularity increases in the studios of Hollywood, the couple delves into a fast and loose world- which results in Hayden’s eventual death from AIDS.Peter fades into the shadows to grieve, and emerges only to rescue three residents in his now-dilapidated building who are fast hurtling towards their own self-destruction.

JACK: Emotionally impotent after witnessing his mother’s flagrant sexual indiscretions, his father’s suicide, and finally Samantha’s rape by her father; 28 year-old Jack tries to numb himself with drugs, but must eventually find a way to stand his ground and fight his own battles.

MICHELLE: Immersed in her mundane life in Nebraska, 22 year-old Michelle fights boredom by using drugs. Busted by her parents, she travels to Los Angeles in search of excitement, believing she can escape the MidWest and live life on her terms. Instead she spins further and further out of control with her addiction, culminating in her 18 year-old brother’s death by overdose- on drugs she gave him. The path to Michelle’s sobriety and transition to adulthood are paved with the perseverance and support of her mentor and friends.

SAMANTHA: Bound by her perceptions of having been abandoned by her mother and victimized by her father, 28 year-old Sam spins her wheels, struggling to empower herself through sexual domination. When her lifetime friend Jack can no longer watch her self-sabotage, their cataclysmic confrontation reveals the key to a haunting mystery: that Samantha’s mother did not abandon her, but was murdered by her unstable father.
