BUNNY AND THE BEAR
By Michael Mackenzie

GENRE: Crime, Drama, Film-noir, Independent
LOGLINE: Lost in paradise…

SYNOPSIS:

Max, a mixed martial arts fighter loses his last professional fight, destroying his career. He arrives in Thailand and meets Terry, a burnt out but charismatic ex-pat and Amir, an exiled criminal. They lure him into their dark seductive world; in which he relives his glory days fighting underground MMA matches. Here, he is introduced to a beautiful lady boy named Lola, who is somehow a kindred spirit in Max’s broken world. Bunny and the bear is a genre film that inverts the classic fighter films from the 80’s like Rocky, Kick-boxer and the Karate kid. It starts where these films end. The film explores themes of masculine identity, sexually and socially, in a world obsessed with money, artifice and the body as commodity. Bunny and the bear is a cross between Chopper’s Australian sensibility and Drive’s fresh stylistic approach to genre.
