CHASING DIANA: INSPIRED BY OUR TRUE STORY
By Jack Firestone

GENRE: Action, Crime, Mystery
LOGLINE: Inspired by a true story, a washed-up actor and his wife unwittingly photograph Princess Diana's car crash, and ultimately find themselves in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse as they become targets for assassination.

SYNOPSIS:

Summer vacation plans take an ominous and deadly turn when a dysfunctional American family witnesses the car crash that kills Princess Diana and her millionaire boyfriend Dodi Al Fayed. Having accidentally snapped some incriminating photos, struggling actor James Goodrich and his naive wife and son become the prey of rogue French police, corrupt Englishmen, and paparazzi, each of whom will stop at nothing short of murder to steal the photographs which the Americans possess — snapshots which are the key to solving the whodunit mystery behind Diana’s and Dodi's deaths. Days later, upon their return to the United States, with the errant French police and paparazzi in close pursuit, James Goodrich and family are thrust into the throes of the merciless glare of the media spotlight... resulting in their already shaky marriage disintegrating further still. In a failing marriage already pressed for change, the celebrity status that James had always sought eludes him yet again — but ironically, it propels Rhonda to stellar heights of unexpected fame as a sought after icon. Just as one of their dreams is resurrected, the other falls victim to old and unforgiving demons. But ultimately, in the denouement, James and his wife break out of their chrysalis, stronger and more loving than ever before.

Jack - cool idea! I love movies like MARATHON MAN in which some random innocent person kinda stumbles into some sort of deadly conspiracy...this seems right up that sort of alley. I remember actually being on a summer vacation with my family at Emerald Isle in NC when we saw Diana's car crash on the news as well, so although our vacation wasn't in Paris, the beginning of your premise does resonate with me. Best of luck with this!

Not only a "cool" idea, Mark, but the CHASING DIANA screenplay is attributable to what happened to my wife and me. JF
