A terminally-ill former FBI agent teams up with an Atlanta Detective, vowing to spend her final days profiling a serial killer who eluded them both twenty one years earlier and poses his young victims as if to look alive, killing them without leaving any clear cause of death.

SYNOPSIS:

When twelve-year-old Debbie Rhodes is abducted from outside her home in rural Georgia, FBI agent Melanie Fuller is called in to find the girl and her captor. But the kidnapper, nor the girl are ever found.

Twenty-one years later Fuller is dying of cancer.

But when Kurt Ressler, the rookie first responder back in 1988 knocks on her door to tell her “there’s been another one”, she reluctantly agrees to write a profile on the perpetrator. But with little evidence to go on, Fuller and Ressler are forced to wait for him to strike again in the hope that more insight can be gained from a fresh crime scene.

They do not have to wait very long.

Conflict arises when Fuller’s priority is finding the man that eluded her, while Ressler is committed to rescuing the latest victim. Fuller befriends Eliza, the sister of the latest victim and makes a promise to find her alive.

But just as the investigation leads to a known convict, the girl is found dead with her face painted in makeup and posed to look alive.

Fuller and Ressler’s hopes die when they find out their main suspect died in prison years earlier; they now realise they are hunting a copycat with intimate knowledge of the case from 1988.

As Ressler begins to struggle with the grim realities of such a dark case, Fuller approaches Eliza, the sister of the latest victim, to use her as bait…

DeadAlive is a dark and naturalistic 1-hour season procedural.

It explores themes of life and death and the effects of such things on those whose job it is to confront them on a day to day basis; a dying woman who wants to be left to die, a detective who will destroy himself in order to save others, and a killer who manipulates the bodies of his victims as if to appear alive.

The series is equal parts character study and realistic, detailed portrayal of a hunt for a serial killer.
