A young writer in New York tries to make a name for himself after moving away from his famous father, friends, and his cutthroat family while dealing with the racism, sex, and drugs of the 80s.
SYNOPSIS:
The 80s tells the life of a young man named Victor growing up during the era of flash and glamour. Victor was born into a rich family that are at each other's throats. His father works in Hollywood and is almost never around. This leads to many conflicts with his stepmother, Meredith, which can be explained as being unlawful. He moves out and attends New York University where he meets his gay roommate, Angel. At first Victor isn't fond of Angel, but after a humiliating experience involving Angel and a fraternity, Victor slowly changes his mind.
After spending the Christmas vacation with his ex-girlfriend, Rachel, Victor accepts the changes in his life and starts his journey on becoming a better person until he learns of Rachel's involvement with Oscar, a racist woman beater who got her hooked on drugs. As Victor grows up he deals with life changing experiences and decisions that will affect everyone around him, leading him to reach his goal of becoming a better person, or take him down a path that could cost him everything.
From 1980 to 1989 he tells us about the most important events in his life that led him to become a better person. Through the music of the 80s he tells us about the heartache of drug use, HIV, racism, sex, and the growing pains of growing up.
