I am a freelancer looking to introduce myself locally to film/ video production companies after previously working for many years in a different geographical area. I have created a website and had tasteful brochures printed up, and went online to find addresses so I can mail them out. Is there an existing comprehensive directory or database I should be using so I'm not reinventing the proverbial research wheel? The areas I need this data for are Los Angeles and San Diego. Thank you in advance for any help.

Expand commentI was in approximately the same situation a year ago, and Googled production companies in my local area. Got a list of about at dozen. Then, took my resume around to all of them, and ... got ... nothing. Except, an idea to produce a series based on a book I wrote 10 years ago. Just an idea. SOMEBODY (and I still don't know who) turned me on to Stage 32. I joined and set up my page. That led to two opportunities: one paid and one not. The paid opportunity taught me all I need to know about script writing (I've been a journalist for a quarter century, so I already knew how to tell a story in writing). The unpaid opportunity connected me with a network of local video makers. Now, I'm ramping up production on the series I mentioned above ( http://bikeshoptv.com ) and negotiating with a streaming network to carry it. Don't know if that helps you think about what happens next in your career, but I hope it tells you something.
Hello, Charles. I know just what you mean as my media career, going back to 1986, has been a tale built around just those sort of events. I'll have more to say about that very soon... in the meantime, it's nice meeting you. Thanks for the thoughtful reply.

This is a network for you, built by you. Like most things in life, the more you participate, the greater the rewards. We ask all new members to pay it forward by inviting 5 fellow creatives to the network and by spreading the word of Stage 32 through other social media sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. The more creatives, the stronger the network. The stronger the network, the more opportunities.
Thanks for joining the movement and for being a part of this most talented and inspiring community. I very much look forward to your contributions.
Thanks, and have a creative day!
RB
