Traditional and modern values collide for an Indian lesbian who must return to India to attend her father's funeral. Upon arriving in India with her partner, she discovers that she must marry in order to uphold her family's rank and stature.

SYNOPSIS:

The story centers around a young Indian woman named SHONA, who is enjoying a happy life in America with her lesbian partner CLAIRE. The two fly together to India to attend Shona's father's funeral. Unbeknownst to Shona, it's soon revealed that Shona's father had promised her to a wealthy young attorney, SHRIPATI, who lives in India. Both Shona and Claire tired of having to hide their feelings for each other in India, plan to leave as soon as the funeral is over. That is, until Shona's mom tells her that the family has been in debt for quite some time, and will lose everything if she does not agree to the plan of marrying Shripati.

Torn between her love for Claire and her traditional familial obligations, Shona's decision to stay and marry Shripati breaks Claire's heart. Shona stays in India and finds herself caught in a struggle between her devotion to her parents, her social and cultural obligations and how she defines herself and love. Hence the title "Inherit A Marriage (I AM)".

However, as time passes, Shripati realizes he may have made a mistake in clipping the wings of his butterfly and finally relents allowing Shona to go find Claire, and win her back; for it is far better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.
