SYNOPSIS:

Janis (at 19) is told by her father she must leave his home.... she lands at "The Halfway House", a blues & jazz club East of Houston and works part-time and implores the band, 'Dave Hargis & the LA Boys', to let her sing on slow nights and on breaks... with no musical training, not able to read sheet music, or sing professionally she moves forward and learns valuable skills, with visceral emotion... and a lot of alcohol. The learning curve is very steep, but she makes it happen.. she won't "Cry Baby"... no one is leaving this courageous young girl behind. Boom! Johnny Cash, Kenny Rogers, and BJ Thomas, et al become regulars at the club, and Bill Petersen, club owner, puts Janis on stage as a back-up singer.... full time. An incredible break...
