PROJECT "SEPTEMBER"
By Arthur Charpentier

GENRE: Thriller, Horror
LOGLINE:

Trying to explain the mystical events associated with new friends, an atheist girl becomes a victim of a serial killer working on an illegal government experiment.

SYNOPSIS:

Kara (21) is a quiet, modest girl who has not yet had intimacy with men. She works as a packer in a supermarket, and in her spare time she is interested in science news and dreams of solving the secret of Black holes. She has a lot of ideas and theories that no one needs. Kara is withdrawn, lonely and does not like to be touched. Her only friend is a computer, and on the forums she is considered crazy under the nickname Vega.

One day, Kara takes a part-time job at work, but she is framed and accused of missing goods. She owes the supermarket director a large sum of money.

After that, on the Internet, Kara argues on a forum with Polina (22) on the topic of religion. Kara is convinced that there is no mysticism and there is no God, all the evidence is either false or delusions. Polina invites Kara to a seance, where she herself will be able to verify the existence of ghosts, spirits, something otherworldly. Kara agrees and meets Polina and her friends.

Polina is a party girl and a student, studying to be a surgeon. She is the daughter of a large businessman, the owner of a factory that fulfills orders of a scientific center.

Since Dmitry conducts the sessions, and he was called to work in another city, instead of communicating with the spirits, Polina decides to have a party. Kara wants to leave, but Polina persuades her to stay. Kara meets Larisa (26), Polina's best friend. She owns a pharmacy and supplies the rich with various medicines. Kara is drugged, and she has fun. After the party, she discovers that she is no longer a virgin, although she does not remember sleeping with anyone.

Next time Polina invites Kara to a seance and promises that this time everything will take place. Kara meets Dmitry (33). He is a philosopher and psychologist, a friend of Polina's family and Larisa's fiance. Dmitry says that his father worked in the KGB on secret projects and saw the most incredible things related to otherworldly forces. Kara does not believe him, Polina supports her in what Dmitry likes to embellish.

In the same place, Kara meets model Marina (19), her lawyer boyfriend Peter (30), and Victor (25) – Polina's boyfriend. The participants of the session take drugs to expand their consciousness and establish a connection with otherworldly forces. They use a board with letters, but someone leaves a message on the ceiling and promises that soon Veronica will punish her murderers. Kara asks about Veronica, but she is told that this girl was killed six months ago and they are not involved in this. Kara doesn't believe that the spirit made the message.

After the session, Polina, with the help of a drug that suppresses the will, forces Kara to follow her orders and records it on her phone. And then blackmails. Kara wants to escape from the city, but meets Maxim (23), a friend of Polina. He is the son of a crime boss and quickly solves the problem of blackmail. He takes the video from Polina and gives it to Kara.

Kara falls in love with Maxim, unaware that it was his insidious plan to subdue her. Maxim wants to reformat the girl's mind and make her believe that he is her god.

Kara loves riddles and mysteries, she asks Maxim about Veronica. She's interested in figuring out the killer. Maxim helps the heroine, tells about the dead girl, takes her to places where she has been and introduces her to those who knew her.

Polina's father suddenly dies of a stroke, and Larisa dies in a car accident. Both accidents do not arouse the suspicion of the police, but Polina is sure that this is the revenge of Veronica's ghost. She becomes a believer and stops using drugs.

At this time, Kara is trying to figure out what is happening to her. Romantic relationships are overshadowed by strange events. Kara gets a tattoo and traces of a whip on her back, although she does not remember how this happened to her. She has strange dreams involving Maxim and Dmitry. In these dreams, she cannot move, her body does not obey her.

Maxim finds the people who robbed the supermarket warehouse, and solves the problem with Kara's debt. This makes the heroine come to terms with the oddities in their relationship and fall in love with Maxim even more.

There is a fire in Polina's house. Victor burns alive, Polina manages to escape. After that, Polina meets with Kara and asks her forgiveness for all the insults she caused. She says that the ghost started killing her friends. Kara denies the interference of spirits and offers to investigate recent deaths.

Kara and Polina investigate and realize that Polina's mother and her lover poisoned her father for the money that he wanted to leave to his daughter. The mother tells the truth to her daughter that her father slept with all her friends and with other girls whom Maxim supplied to him. He was the last person to see Veronica. Polina threatens her mother that she will hand her over to the police for the murder of her father, but she replies that she has no evidence, and if her daughter opens her mouth, she will lose all money and go to a mental hospital.

Kara wants to talk to her boyfriend, but she has a memory lapse again. She regains consciousness at home near Maxim's corpse, hacked to death with a meat axe. There are pools of blood and body parts around. Horrified, Kara wants to call the police first, but realizes that she will be the first suspect in the murder. She investigates Maxim's things and finds psychotropic drugs. And in the phone she finds a photo of a country house, where he is depicted with Dmitry and Polina's father. Kara cleans up her tracks in the apartment.

Then she goes to Polina and tells about the country house and Dmitry and Maxim's connection with her father. However, instead of helping, Polina takes a knife and attacks Kara. Polina has gone mad and thinks that Kara is taking revenge for her humiliation. She wounds her in a fight, but Igor (24) appears - Marina's lover, with whom she cheated on Peter. He tries to calm Pauline down, but she is unusually strong. In a fight, Polina is mortally wounded and dies.

Kara and Igor go to Dmitry to find out his connection with Maxim and find a mysterious house. They talk on the way. Kara finds out that Igor only met Marina a couple of months ago and did not know Veronica. He came to Polina to talk about Marina, who disappeared after she began to live with Dmitry.

Breaking into Dmitry's house and searching it, Kara finds a lot of records about herself and her new friends. And also a video where everything that was in her strange dreams is recorded. From the documents, she finds out about the existence of the project "September", in which supercomputers were created from people. With the help of hypnosis and brainwashing with psychotropic drugs, scientific knowledge was loaded into people and their subconscious was forced to process certain tasks. And after receiving the result, the memory was erased. Kara's task was to discover the secrets of Black holes.

Dmitry was the curator of this project, and Maxim was his assistant. But that's not all. Kara and Igor find out that zombie technologies were used by Dmitry and his entourage to commit crimes. They reprogrammed people at will, instilling in them various vices or forcing them to commit various acts, including murder and suicide. Kara and Igor uncover a whole sect of various city officials, deputies, businessmen, scientists and special services agents who play gods, deciding the fate of citizens. Playing them like pieces on a chessboard. Kara finds out that for almost many years she was a puppet in the hands of the special services, who put illegal experiments on her and used her for their own purposes.

In the basement of the house, the heroine finds Marina and finds out that Dmitry mocked her.

Igor finds the coordinates of the mysterious house, and he and Kara go there. Peter catches up with them in a car and tries to knock them into a ditch in order to deal with Igor for being Marina's lover. A chase begins, as a result of which Peter crashes into an oncoming truck and dies.

Arriving at the place, Kara accidentally realizes that Igor knows Veronica. The guy confesses that she is his sister, and he swore to avenge her death. Kara says that Polina and her friends were not to blame. Igor replies that these rich offspring are just garbage that will not bring any benefit to society, and they deserve to die. Igor admits that he killed Maxim and wanted to frame Kara. She would not have been imprisoned for murder in an inadequate state, with all the evidence and video recordings of hypnosis sessions.

The heroine explores the house together with Igor, but Dmitry locks them in different rooms. He kills Igor, and then comes to Kara. Dmitry says that he is God and the whole city is in his power. With the help of secret zombie technology, he can control any person in the city. He inspired Igor with a sense of revenge and forced him to kill innocent people. He allowed Kara to find and come to this house only in order to use hypnosis to unload from her the answers to the mysteries of Black holes, and then kill and put an end to the secret experiment.

Activating Kara's hypnotic setup, Dmitry gets all the information from her, and then orders her to cut off her finger. He revels in his power and says he will make Kara cut herself into pieces. Kara tries to resist, but cuts off her finger. Then Dmitry demands that she gouge out her eyes. Realizing that Kara's life is under threat, her subconscious, which Dmitry turned into a supercomputer, rebels against its creator. She takes the severed finger and puts it to the stump. The finger is fused. And then Kara decides to check how immortal her god is. She brutally kills Dmitry.

But before he dies, he activates the neuro-linguistic programming code, which will allow Kara's subconscious to merge with consciousness and gain freedom. It will be devastating to her mind, but it won't happen soon (spoiler!).

After collecting evidence about the project "September" and the criminal sect, she destroys the data on Black Holes. After that, Kara comes out of a hypnotic trance and together with Marina leaves the city to hide from people involved in illegal experiments on people's minds. She knows that neither villains, nor scientists, nor special services will want to leave witnesses and test subjects alive. They will be hunted and therefore need to hide in order to prepare for a new battle.

The final.

I'd say trim down your logline and use more active verbs to help the reader understand why an atheist girl would even go to a seance let alone one that promises to be punishing. Does someone force the girl to go or maybe coerce her? Overall your story sounds full of interesting dark horror elements.

Jeannie Johanna, thank you very much. your comment made me write a new logline.

Great changes! I'm a stickler for active verbs for they convey ideas much more visually and powerfully. Here's one more suggestion. Instead of "finds out that she's a victim" she could fall victim to... :p

Arthur Charpentier

Jeannie Johanna, but then the scale of the story will decrease. this will be a more accurate description, but less impressive.
