Expand commentI recently had the opportunity to edit my first full length indie film. The project was a "first time" effort for most of the crew including the director. Aside from directing, our fearless leader wrote the screenplay, starred in and executive produced the film. Taking on that many roles for a first time effort, imho, is not advisable. Though I feel I have good instincts and skills as an editor and director, I would not want to tackle that many positions because you run the risk of being too tied to your own ideas and not able to be objective in the cutting room. A creative issue that I ran up against with our director a few too many times on this project.

If the project is right most people would be willing to work with you. Don't sell yourself short. It's mostly about the material. Go for it!
I see a lot of people advising other to make their films. Telling writers to produce and direct and so on. Now, I wonder since when did producing, cinematography or directing became so easy that everybody can do it? Does a heart surgeon operates a brain? No. It is quite disrespectful I believe. Opinions?
Agreed! I get scripts frequently that aren't even formatted properly. Waste of time...

Making a film is no longer a foreign thing like it was in the past which is evident by how young people are when they start creating. While yes, I agree, that it is ideal to work with people who are amazing at their aspect of film making, having and understand of all of it helps the whole process... and with the quality of cameras, attachable mics, and simple lighting set ups it would be hard for someone to do the whole thing on their own, but far from impossible. @Rick Borgia: yes, because a great story isn't great if its not 'properly formatted'.
it's called talent and being inspired... Don't be hating..lol ..If you can't do or see something, don't worry about who can and why.
I know I might not fit these roles, but I would love to work on it:) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm4587596/

Backstage's actorfest is an event you travel to where you stand in line for hours in the hopes of a meet and greet with a casting director. Some lines can run as long as 3-4 hours with no guarantees. This is a one on one session with established casting directors, producers, and agents. where you get to perform and receive feedback. Tremendous difference. As you can see from the comments listed below, the experience our members had with our Online Pitchfest was overwhelmingly positive. We have no doubt our Actorfest will garner the same response. Thanks, Stacia.

I've been in theatre productions throughout elementary school/high school, and I'm looking to get some acting under my belt for short films. I've always found acting very rewarding. Can anyone recommend anything? Or know of any small productions willing to cast actors with no previous film acting experience? Thank you :)
Get good headshots, get on casting sites and start submitting yourself-student films are a great way to start

If you live in a major market like LA, Chicago or NY, there are probably casting websites you can sign up for and submit yourself to. But a good headshot is key as it is what you need to have in order to submit. Every actor began with a blank resume; for now, definitely list the plays you've acted in and as you build up film credits (including student films), you can add those to your resume. Acting classes are a great way to network and continue to train.

Over the years I have hired many, many models for runway and print work (fashion design) and I ALWAYS consider both professional talent and "wannabe" talent. I am always amazed and pleased at the undiscovered talent that is out there! Would you believe I hired one girl to work in a tradeshow booth and model footwear for me and she went on to HUGE stardom and fame (Julianne Hough.) Another one of my "discoveries" is now walking in NY Fashion Week and a third has a major role in a new major artist's music video. I would suggest making yourself known to the film studies departments at any local college and get involved with any local indie production regardless of how crappy it may be. You will be surprised where it all leads!
Yes, you can add from Aliens to Zombies I did a project profile for it:) Actually getting on here more now:)
