A Chinese actress returns to Shanghai to reclaim her son and repay his captor for arranging her escape in the finale of WWII.  Now married to an American producer, she is welcomed back under the auspices of becoming the icon for the struggling Shanghai film industry.  In an increasingly tumultuous city, she must outsmart dangerous political players to be reunited with her child.
