SYNOPSIS:

Pilot for a half-hour comedy series By: John Vamvas & Olga Montes "Vamvas and Montes make well-worn turf special by ringing true via bang-on dialogue." Alan Kellogg, The Journal Billy Astro is an extremely talented actor in his thirties who hasn't gotten his break yet. He travels to New York from Montreal to audition for a play he has toured cross-country and gotten unbelievable reviews for. He runs into Shawn Starr on the street who has just come out of the same audition. They remember each other from a workshop they took together some years back and Shawn accompanies Billy to his audition. Billy is devastated when he doesn't land the role and decides to head back home. Shawn convinces him to stick around for a few days and invites him to stay with him. There, Billy meets Misty, Shawn's landlady, a six foot five African-American football player sized drag queen. Billy is a little freaked out by her at first and soon starts to become wary of Shawn. His exhaustion overtakes him, though, and he falls asleep on Shawn's couch. Shawn finds an unfinished manuscript among Billy's things and reads it. He wakes Billy up to beg him to stay in New York to finish his brilliant play as he, Shawn, is perfect for the co-starring role. He assures Billy that if they put the play up together, they will become stars and finally make it. On the Road to Our Success follows the hilarious and zany adventures of two struggling actors as they go to auditions, try to land an agent, try to make ends meet (Billy will land steady voice work and get a working permit), and do unbelievable things to get a play off the ground. In subsequent episodes, we will meet Stephanie Perez, one of New York's hottest agents who is also Billy's ex-soul mate. Sam, Shawn's wacky actress girlfriend, and Jim, the nutty owner of the Actor's Café, a local artists' hangout. "Known" real-life actors, producers, directors, writers, etc. can/will be pertinent to some of the stories.
