A seemingly devout pastor with a dark secret murders sinners to "cleanse" their souls while his obedient medical examiner wife meticulously covers up his crimes—until she discovers she’s the next target on his chilling list.
SYNOPSIS:
DELILAH QUINN (26), a devout Christian and skilled mortician, leads a seemingly serene life with her husband, GIDEON QUINN (42), a respected pastor renowned for his piety and dedication. Despite their outwardly perfect existence, Delilah has endured a decade of emotional coldness and lack of intimacy from Gideon, casting a shadow over their marriage.
Delilah's fragile world collapses when she discovers a chilling secret in Gideon's home office: a list of recently deceased individuals, with all names but one crossed off. Her confrontation with Gideon reveals a horrifying truth: he has been murdering parishioners he considers sinful, and Delilah’s role as a mortician has been unwittingly facilitating his grisly acts by covering them up as accidents. Gideon claims the names on the list were divinely revealed to him and insists that they must continue "God’s work."
Panicked, Delilah visits BENJAMIN HARRIS (40s), the last name on the list, to uncover if he holds a dark secret justifying Gideon’s actions, and to warn him without implicating herself. Her efforts prove futile, and Benjamin ends up in her morgue, with Gideon pressuring her to label his death a suicide.
In a rare act of defiance, Delilah casts doubt on the official suicide ruling, prompting an investigation. However, her relief is short-lived when she discovers that her name has been added to Gideon’s hitlist, now under lock and key in his office.
Desperate and cornered, Delilah resorts to drastic measures: she poisons Gideon’s wine to protect herself but has a sudden change of heart and stops him before he can consume any. Despite seemingly thwarting the attempt, she is horrified to find Gideon choking and gagging in his bed later that night, an empty wine glass on his nightstand. Overwhelmed with grief and guilt, her distress intensifies when she later discovers that her name has been removed from the list and replaced with Gideon's, making her question whether her actions were in vain or if her judgment was clouded by desperation.
Fearing exposure and the repercussions of her actions, Delilah hides Gideon’s body in her basement morgue while trying to formulate a plan. Utilizing her forensic skills, she attempts to remove all trace of her involvement and then calls her cop friend, OFFICER FROCK (30s), but when he arrives, the body is now missing. Despite Frock's attempts to prove her innocence, Delilah is suspected of Gideon's disappearance/murder and placed on a 51-50 psych hold. To everyone's astonishment, Gideon shows up the next morning, alive and well, transformed into the loving, compassionate husband Delilah had always wished for. Gideon’s sudden change leaves Delilah questioning whether he is truly her husband or a malevolent force delivering an Earthly penance for her actions. Ignoring Frock's concern for her safety, Delilah passes a psychological evaluation and chooses to leave with Gideon. Once home, she quickly learns a painful lesson: be careful what you wish for.
The 6th Commandment is a suspenseful psychological thriller/horror that explores the boundaries of faith, the depths of love and guilt, and the eerie uncertainty of whether true redemption is ever achievable.
