SYNOPSIS:

Sounds of sirens, yelling, a scuffle, screams… then the beeping of a life-support machine. A body hooked up in hospital. We’re in an interrogation room as a SLICK (60s) is thrown in, he’s the epitome of a wide boy, covered in gold from tooth to toe. He scrambles to his feet and gives the officer a mouth full. We’re in the hospital room as the beeps seem stable, the face of a man battered and bruised. The interrogation room door opens again and escorted in cuffs is TOMUA (37) a hulking Tongan with bruises on his face and blood on his knuckles is forced into a seat next to Slick. The officers leave. Slick tells Tomua he’ll do the talking, Tomua agrees.

A woman enters, SOPH (30) a coffee in one hand and a file in the other. She takes a seat opposite them. Opens the file and begins reading off the injuries the other fighter suffered. The sound of beeping once again, it’s getting frantic and unstable, then we’re in a ring made of wooden posts and string. A blood-thirsty crowd watch as Tomua and his OPPONENT (30) go at it, punching, grappling, wrestling. Slick is in one corner, yelling instructions. It’s a one-sided beatdown as Tomua batters his opponent from pillar to post. Whatever offence is put up is dismantled with brute strength, and Tomua is soon punching a man-shaped heavy bag. Then beeping as we’re back in the hospital room, it’s not looking good for the opponent who is close to flatlining. Back to the interrogation, where Soph asks about the organisation, the underground fighting is run by a mob boss, she gives a mononym, ‘Anderson’ and a picture, an older, heavyset man in a fashionable suit, surrounded by women in elegant yet revealing dresses and a few well-dressed men. Soph tells Slick and Tomua they’ve been cracking down on Anderson’s fronts, the brothels, the gambling dens, the laundrettes, and have never been able to catch the man himself. They managed to get into underground fights when taking down the brothel and someone talked, and finding out that the fight was fixed, much to Tomua’s annoyance, they knew when to strike. Soph has one question, Anderson’s whereabouts. Slick confidently responds that he doesn’t know, nor does Tomua.

Back in the hospital room, someone enters and unplugs the opponent’s life-support. The hands then cover the nose and face, making sure the job is done. Slick then tells Soph that the man isn’t Anderson, he’s just the bodyguard, much to Soph’s shock. In the hospital, we hear heels, then see a dress. A hand then takes the hand of the suited heavyset man and the two walk off. Back in the interrogation room, Slick tells Soph that Anderson’s probably gone by now, and they’ll be gone soon too. We hear Anderson on the phone, she gives an address, then we’re in an office, the door bursts open and police arrest a MAN behind a desk, with a picture showing him next to Anderson and her bodyguard at the fight. The interrogation room opens, and an officer tells Soph that they’ve got Anderson. He then tells her to uncuff Slick and Tomua and let them go. She begrudgingly obliges. Slick and Tomua get into a car. They join ANDERSON (30s), as they start driving, Slick asks her what she’ll do now, she tells them she’ll cut any other leads and start again before promptly shooting both men.
