Five runners battle their own demons as they run the most grueling ultra-run marathon ever, The Barkley.

SYNOPSIS:

The Barkley Marathon is a 100 mile ultra-run. Runners slosh through mud, go through dark tunnels and navigate treacherous terrains to find hidden checkpoints on a circular course they run five times. If you ask anyone who has tried to compete in the annual race that only allows 40 people each year to run the course and they will tell you it’s the most brutal race anyone can ever attempt. In its 25 years the race has only boasted 14 winners.

To even be considered as a Barkley candidate, runners have to decode a byzantine entry procedure just to get in the door. The entry fee is a measly $1.60 and a license plate from your hometown. If you can find the creator Gary “Laz” Cantrell and get your entry in you may be greeted with an email explaining how you have unfortunately been selected to compete in this year’s race.

60: Beyond the Yellow Gate tells gives a fictionalized telling of the marathon. It follows 5 runners, each of who has their own demons they are battling as they navigate the race. We flash through their lives and find out what led them here as they run on a path to self discovery. Winning isn't the only thing in life.
