Great article! I will argue with the first point. At this time and age most composers don't have a choice to be somewhere in the middle. You can be great at one style, good at two or three styles, ok at four or five styles and suck at the rest. Understanding what these styles are for you will help you on your point 2 and 3. You can't be great at everything and if you can only one thing, you're stuck doing only that.
