THE WOMAN WHO KNOWS

THE WOMAN WHO KNOWS
By Alicia McClendon

GENRE: Thriller, Mystery
LOGLINE: A chronically and mentally ill woman awakens one morning with the recollection that she has just killed her husband’s mistress only to discover her memories aren’t what they seem.

SYNOPSIS:

Mei finds herself in bed after a night of drinking on top of medications, including for sleep. She is known to have hallucinations and does not remember the one from the night before. Joseph is the one who found her sprawled out in the bathroom by the toilet and placed her in bed. After an argument and making up, he leaves his phone in the hotel room. Mei chases after him, but before she can get to him, she sees him with another woman, threatening to tell his wife everything. Mei rushes back into the room as she hyperventilates from a panic attack. Mei goes to the front desk and discovers that Violet is staying at the same hotel as she is. She decides to travel to her room only to find Violet arguing with her husband, SCOTT, about an affair she is having. Once she leaves, she bumps into Scott’s son, Jonathan, who begins to flirt with Mei, even after she tells him that she is married. He admits he is the stepson to Violet and isn’t very fond of her. The next time Mei is back at the front desk, she discovers Violet’s drunk mother-in-law, BEATRICE, and her daughter, RACHEL, in the lobby. Following them, she finds herself back in the corridor of Violet’s room. Beatrice, staggering inside Violet’s room, initiates a shouting match between the two as Rachel ambles down the hall, where Mia tries to pry by getting information out of her. Once Beatrice staggers out of the room, Rachel follows, leaving Violet to find Mei, who sprints toward the staircase. Mei finally confronts Joseph about everything, and of course, he denies an affair and says that Violet is an obsessed fan who follows him wherever he goes, though he’s taking care of the matter. Mei believes him. That’s until that night, she finds him missing from bed. Mei returns to Violet’s corridor and sees Joseph arguing with Violet. He threatens her, pulling her back by the hair. That’s when Mei decides to visit Violet that night after Joseph returns to bed. That’s after she takes her medications with a glass of wine. She knocks at the door. Violet opens the door. Her eyes widen in shock, though Violet lets Mei inside, even though Mei is barely able to stand on her two feet as she hears noises that are not there and sees hazy colors. Mei staggers inside Violet’s room… Mei awakens in bed the next morning and peers down and sees droplets of blood on the sleeves of her robe. She tries to remember the night before, and all she can remember is knocking at Violet’s door…
