A middle-aged hip-hop superstar turned caregiver for his ailing mom gets help from feisty senior musicians to restart his career.

SYNOPSIS:

Andy Hernandez was once the hype man for a hugely successful hip-hop group, but he quit the gig because he wasn’t getting the credit he thought he deserved. Since then, he’s struggled as a musician, and at 55, he’s a washed-up jingle writer and the primary caretaker of his aged mother. Then one fateful night while MCing at a small Poets Cafe, two opportunities present themselves: his old partner wants him back for a Reunion Tour, and he’s asked to come to teach at the Academy of Elder Arts & Minds – a place senior entertainers get to continue performing. Andy is thrilled. Finally, he’s getting some recognition! He’s got a musical he’s been writing for years, and with the senior’s amazing talent, he even has a shot at getting it produced. But Andy’s got issues – he doesn’t play well with others, he’s opportunistic, he’s egotistical, and worse yet, he’s failing in taking care of his family. Will directing a musical with a cast of savvy elders teach him that family – all its forms – is what’s truly important?
