A Desi woman on a mission to find her match, leaves India for small-town Canada in search of true love, only to land herself in a world of clashing cultures and traditions when she falls for a man who's on a mission of his own: to runaway from love entirely.
SYNOPSIS:
TREATMENT:
Marigold (Mari) DeSouza has done everything “right,” worked hard to follow in her father’s footsteps in
becoming a doctor. He’s provided every opportunity for her to receive the best education in the world: she
soared through her undergrad, graduated early from The University of Toronto’s School of Medicine, and
has been accepted into the most prestigious residency programs in America. As Chief of Staff at
Mumbai’s top hospital however, her father’s adamant that she complete her placement back home in
India. Not quite ready to face her future and say goodbye to her present, Mari jumps on an invitation to
join a friend in Winnipeg for Christmas. The only problem is, she jumps on the wrong bus, one headed for
Winnie, BRITISH COLUMBIA instead.
Mari realizes her massive error the moment she arrives in the quaint mountain town. She scrambles to
get back home, but an incoming winter storm of epic proportions has other plans in mind. As snow piles
up on the pass - the only road out of Winnie - Mari resolves to not let this misstep become a mistake, and
commits to making the best of being stranded. She meets a few townspeople, amongst them Aiden
Noble. His sister Anna encourages him to let Mari stay with him until she finds her way - he has the space
after all - and his mother Jo agrees that this is best. One look from him says that this is the last thing he
wants, but ultimately outnumbered, he agrees.
Mari embeds herself into the ways of the town and its people with ease, is welcomed with curiosity and
delight in return. She shares her own holiday customs and learns of new exciting ones. She quickly finds
herself unexpectedly feeling at home amongst these Winnians, all except for Aiden, that is. He’s a bit of a
curmudgeon, adverse to change or anything remotely having to do with notions of love. Mari’s the
opposite, her positivity and belief in fate a constant (and secretly refreshing) pain in his side. But over
time, she shows him that true happiness knows no bounds - no culture, nor snowy blockade - and
together they put their differences aside to save the town's annual festival of lights when Winnie’s power
gets knocked out. As luck would have it though, just as Aiden’s heart begins to warm, the snow begins to
melt and the pass reopens, leaving Mari with the difficult choice of putting what she thought she wanted
aside in favor of something new, like love.
