THE FALLING MAN
By Stephen Fife

GENRE: Romance, Thriller
LOGLINE:

An architect is forced to confront a tragic incident in his past when he gets the commission to build a dreamhouse on a cliff for a famous female suspense author

SYNOPSIS:

When PETER LOMAX receives the commission to build the dreamhouse for AUBREY TENNES, 48, queen of American suspense-horror authors, then he has to face his past head-on. He has to take on the ghosts that have followed him and weighed down his life since his fiancée Liz fell from a cliff in 1995 while she was with Peter.

Aubrey’s property is located on a cliff in Connecticut that eerily resembles the one that Liz fell from. The home that Aubrey wants Peter to build her in 2020 – well, Peter already has the plans, having designed them for Liz all those years ago. The only problem is that Peter faints whenever he goes near the cliff, and he is haunted more than ever by Liz in memories and nightmares. Associates at his firm advise Peter to pass on the offer, but he insists on accepting the challenge. He has to face this once and for all. Also, his firm desperately needs the money and publicity.

You see, Lomax & Associates has been in a freefall since Peter messed up a prestigious commission to build a new mental health clinic in Manhattan when one of his ex-girlfriends surfaced at the press announcement and publicly accused Peter of abusive behavior. The thing is, this girlfriend has been sent instructions on how to get past security at the press event, and Peter’s downfall is celebrated by some people watching from the shadows. So who are these people? And why are they trying to destroy Peter’s business, as well as his reputation?

Peter is bolstered in his struggles by DANA SHANLEY, 36, an aspiring sculptor whose own career is on the rise. She is the first woman who Peter has fallen in love with since he lost Liz, and he is hoping to marry her. But Peter’s confidence in Dana is shaken when he trails her to a mysterious appointment and hears her moaning with pleasure behind a closed door. When he sees her later, she denies having gone anywhere that afternoon. What is Dana hiding? Is it simply an affair or could she be connected somehow to the group of people seeking Peter’s demise?

Peter’s paranoia goes into overdrive, and he hires a security expert to discover the source of all the danger that has been closing in on him and plaguing the construction of Aubrey’s dream-house. The security expert tells Peter that he has found some major reasons for suspicion, but then the expert turns up dead at the building site, with Peter as the chief suspect. In the end – and in the midst of the pandemic - Peter will have to go back to where all his troubles began in order to find the truth. But by that time, will it be too late to foil the plot and to save his own life?
