By Alan Devey

GENRE: Thriller, Crime
LOGLINE:

Following a diamond deal double-cross and a subsequent brutal attack, an ordinary family man is taken hostage and forced to accompany a career criminal on the run amid the corruption and violence of London's criminal underworld.

SYNOPSIS:

Ageing career criminal Ron tries to pull off one last job in his adopted home of Kent, South-East England to set himself up his dotage. Unfortunately Ron’s attempt to buy uncut diamonds from an Armenian gang falls apart when the exchange is gate-crashed by a group of local criminals affiliated with corrupt Officer Snodgrass. Ron goes after the diamonds while his cohorts are arrested but loses track of the vehicle and takes his frustration out on an innocent bystander. Meanwhile henpecked husband Brendan returns to London from a family weekend away but proves to have the wrong train ticket and is taken to London Bridge station’s holding area. Here he encounters fellow Ron who has been on the run and subsequently come a cropper as the police close in. Ron is then identified as the main suspect for the earlier assault which has left the victim fighting for his life. Trapped, Ron takes Brendan hostage and intimidates him into a journey across the city to retrieve his stash. At Ron’s estranged wife’s house they discover the money has also been stolen. Brendan takes a rare opportunity to escape but Ron is one step ahead. They hole up at Brendan’s house where Brendan tries to phone for help in the night but is caught by Ron and badly beaten.

The next day the pair visit a police station where officers sympathetic to ex-informant Ron plan his escape via Rye Harbour on the south coast. Exhilarated, and with his hostage apparently on-side, Ron turns his attention to Brendan, urging him to face down his problematic boss. At his office complex Brendan confronts this man and an altercation plays out. The pair head to a deprived area in East London to make a deal with some career criminals, something that fails during a tense stand-off. They hole up in a pub where Ron phones in a terrorist threat to throw police off the scent. Through a pub regular Brendan gets word of their destination out and then, after escaping their pursuers, Ron carjacks a vehicle. Gangster Mal informs Snodgrass of Ron’s plan so the corrupt officer overtakes Ron and Brendan on the approach to Rye Harbour. Here Snodgrass poses as the captain, revealing his deception once the pair are on-board. Snodgrass pulls a gun and taunts Ron, inadvertently letting Brendan flee. Brendan dodges bullets while Ron grapples with Snodgrass before being overwhelmed. Brendan knocks Snodgrass out with a marlinspike, allowing the captain to be released. He prepares to sail as the police arrive with Brendan’s wife. Ron urges Brendan to disembark but the latter reveals a concealed weapon, using it to hand Ron into the police, before subsequently reuniting with his newly-admiring wife.
