In 1930s England four strong-willed sisters must cope with their eccentric aristocratic relatives, unwanted attention from hapless suitors and lingering Victorian attitudes as they try to forge varying paths through a rapidly changing world.
SYNOPSIS:
In this pilot episode we join the three sisters and their brother Marcus in the Gallants’ ancestral home, Hogsbane House, where servant Millie grapples with a rising workload and napkins are at a premium. Eventually the family’s snobbish matriarch, Lady Gallant, overcomes her embarrassment and reveals the reason behind all this penny-pinching: the family is about to be engulfed by a financial crisis thanks to the unwise investments of its perpetually furious patriarch, Lord Gallant. With the help of Delilah, Cecily goes on to interview the younger family members and has them pose for photographs in the grounds. That is, until they are interrupted by a cross-dressing Magnus trying to get in on the action and finally shut down by Lord Gallant who is on the warpath. But the ruse appears to work. The following morning ‘The Gallant Gals’ are all over one of the country’s most popular papers and Cecily is commissioned to write a book on the family. Soon gentleman callers arrive to woo Jocelyn who has been dubbed ‘the beauty’ and the ###span class="">public’s fascination continues to grow, even as Lord and Lady Gallant are exasperated by their children’s outspoken views and growing celebrity. Such developments set us up for the rest of the series, as the sisters continue to act as tabloid catnip; the
