A terminally ill 5th grade teacher must save twins from a dangerous environment and convince their drug addicted mother to allow another family to adopt them before her time runs out.

SYNOPSIS:

CLAIRE MCKAY, an elementary school teacher, has become deeply concerned with two of her students, (twins) MICHAEL & MICHELLE. She is sadden and appalled when she learns of the horrible and dangerous conditions they are living in. Their father is in prison, the mother is a drug addict and some teenager is running around their apartment with a loaded gun.

Claire wants desperately to adopt these kids, but she is single and has a secret of her own, she has been diagnosed with a terminal liver disease which is quickly taking over her life.

She passes out in the street in front of the kids’ apartment building and is taken to a hospital where she starts to bond with her doctor, REGIS KENNEY, who has recently left his wife, GLORIA. She and her doctor are starting to fall for each other, but they both know this is a bad idea. Somehow, she must get her head together to save these kids. She must convince their drug addicted mother to allow another family to take them in before her illness takes her life.

When Claire learns that the main reason for Dr Regis' estrangement is that his wife cannot bear children, she realizes that if she can get Regis & Gloria back together, this could be the perfect situation for those kids. But will she be able to get him to go back to his wife and consider adopting Michael & Michele before her time runs out?
