A girl and three boys try to evade evil knights to capture magical gems they've worn since birth. Their attempt to break a 500-year-old curse sets them on a collision course of death and destiny. There struggle to learn to use the amulets makes them realize if they fail they could succumb to the evil Knights they've sworn to destroy.

SYNOPSIS:

A 500 year old curse grips the land as an ancient order of Knights slaughters a helpless village. Four teen-age friends, one girl and three boys are the only survivors. Each vows an oath to break the curse. Along their travels of dangerous obstacles and fighting menacing creatures of myth, they discover their only female friend Exandra, is gifted beyond her years. The daughter of witches she is also clairvoyant.

A skilled archer, hunter and tracker Bran leads the group. The apprentice of an old wizard Gareth tries his magic that sometimes backfires on the group. Jason's bold but reckless behavior proves his bravery.

Along the way the four of them discover the amulet can be used for both good and evil purposes.

Almost into the ancient castle they become surrounded when the Black Knights kill Jason. Before he dies, Exandra professes her love for him. They discover the amulet has the power to stop time. Exandra swears she will raise Jason from the dead. She will do anything to bring him back to life, even betraying her oath. At the end of the book, they witness Exandra’s betrayal. The fabled mark of the black sword is clearly shown on her face. As prophecy foretold she is the first to give in to the ancient family curse and submits to the evil Black Knights.
